Interesting situation last night.

Conference gig, new venue. The stage was so tight, that the violinist/vocalist/2nd keys had to ditch his synth.

I had agreed to go direct and ampless, based on assurances that the rental PA had adequate subs and good monitors. Turned out they had 4 wedges on 2 channels, for a 7-piece band. One was tiny, and another was dead.

I brought the Rumble as a backup, so out it came. Unfortunately, this drummer has hands like sledgehammers. No room to raise my amp, as it was tucked in against the kick under the hi-hat. I was mere inches from the drums, and wishing I'd brought my compact 800-watt rig instead of a puny 100-watter.

The other complication, was that I was practically standing on top of the lead vocalist/first keys. She finds it hard to hear if there's a lot of bass competing with her mix, so we were miles away from the single sub.

I rolled off some low end, tweaked my compressor, and pushed the volume as high as I could without getting the stink-eye from the boss. I could still barely hear myself, and it was hard to adjust for a solid low end without sounding mushy.

Then I remembered that I'd added a tilt-back foot. That was enough to give a little more growl and clarity. I was still getting buried under the drums, but the Rumble never showed any signs of stress, and I could hear just enough to give a decent performance.

It was interesting to hear how well the Rumble translated my Dingwall's 37" B string under such difficult conditions. Not bad for a $300 practice amp!

Well the guys at DVD247.com have lent me a 200 combo till mine comes in. I've been on it for over two kin hours and it's just unbelievable! Was gonna buy and OD pedal for it but no, I don't need too, it's just the bollocks.
Well that's a result Luds .....for the time being anyway. Enjoy ....
p.s. sorry, Dad's name doesn't ring any bells .... no pun intended mate.

:woot: WOOT! :woot: This is perfect, 68Luds. ;) I know you'd much rather have your 500, but by living with the 200 combo for a while and then the 500 you can give us a first rate compare-and-contrast review. Some have reported a special 'mojo' about the 200 that is intriguing to say the least.

 Rumble On!

Yes I will when ever it turns up! Btw this 200 has mojo in bucket loads, it's soooo warm and crunchy and driven and well... cool. Rehearsal tomorrow night see how loud it goes eh:woot:

For those of you that don't know, Fender has been moving forward on many fronts, not the least of which was adding U2's Bono & Edge to F.M.I.C.'s Board of Directors in May, and now Luke Wood.

Fender Welcomes Beats Electronics President Luke Wood to Board of Directors

I think this bodes particularly well for the future of Fender.

Question:

Now that I've got my 500 + cab going, what about at the other end? Is the Rumble V3 15 any good? What about 25? It seems like 40 is at the sweet spot of price, sound quality, and features, but $79 for the V3 15 is a pretty tempting deal. Should I just save up for the 40?
Look three posts above and you'll find a link to the review of the new Rumble 25 that I wrote over the weekend. I would most definitely go with the Rumble 40 due to it's full featured front-end and Class-D ICEPower amp. Also the 10" woofer is more able to faithfully reproduce a low E fundamental vs 8" woof in the 15 & 25. The 25 and 40 are very close in size with the 40 actually being 3 pounds lighter! I bought the 25 because it was a raging bargin, and so very cute. The 40 is just as cute and twice as good as the 25.

You sold me. I'll just "save up" (i.e. not spend money on dumb things for a week) for the 40 instead.

I just recently got myself a Vox AC4C1-12 for a practice guitar amp and replaced my Peavey Envoy. However, as good as it is a guitar amp, it is a terrible bass amp, whereas the Envoy was passable for bass, so I need something to sit in my living room and not look ugly next to the Vox, which is a beautiful amplifier.
