Fender Rumble Club

Do you think there’s any hope for a small battery powered Rumble?

In term of RMS power, the Rumble 500 AMP delivers about 215W RMS into 8 ohms and 400W RMS into 4 ohms.

Ha ha . . They are if you look at the service manual, it says so. I tested mine on the bench (into resistive load) and behold, it delivered about 212W at 8 ohms and nearly 406W into 4 . .

Agreed and I'm delighted with the performance. Good design, good tone, well designed..

But all this talk of "350 clean continuous watts in 8 ohms" is nonsense. As a stand alone unit it's a 215W combo.

Your test, while maybe valid, is not statistically significant.
break out the the Guinness, we have numbers, what we need is the test figure. Everyone get your calculators out. We can do a one tail test, 90% confidence level? Go.

Hi Alfonso. My test simply verified Fenders own service manual to be correct in the power output rating. I'm not trying to be the Devil's advocate here.

As for the significance and/or statistics, it's not really relevant as the proof of the pudding etc. The Rumble 500 is a good piece of gear and it doesn't matter about technical testing. I was simply pointing out the facts.

I wouldn't be too worried, doubling the power would not make a significant increase in volume to be honest. The Rumble 500 uses an amplifier module from icePower in Denmark, the 125ASX2 to be precise that's capable of delivering 550W into 4 ohms. Either the units used are 'specials' with reduced power or Fender have used jiggery pokery to limit the output. Either way it's likely for reliability, thermal and speaker damage reasons, which is a good thing.

Service manual guy, what is the "true" power of the 200?

I had a gig last month where a 410 was provided (turned out to be a gk top of the line in the late 90s type). Instead of bringing in my 112 I stacked the combo on top.

And there is a yorkville 410 in the practice space, so I tested it that way first, but both cab and combo at knee blast floor height. Master now has to come down from noon to between 1/4-1/3 and subtractive bass eq is needed.

Sound guy had me really pull the volume and low eq down, I had the 15" on top so I could hear the mids really well.

So now I endorse the 410 under rumble 200/15 combo for when air needs to.be pushed on bigger stages. I'm keeping the 112 for compact rig as well as future experiments with my b600h and goliath 2 or 3 410 cabs. The GIII/200 will now be my big stage, no backline setup, with the b600h as backup.

Rumble 410 would surely be similar

Hi there 'ubenator' . . According to Fenders spec the Rumble 200 does (RMS values) about 93W into 8 ohms and 160W into 4, they test at 100Hz and 1 kHz. So the 200 is somewhat poetic and more by model number than power output.

I wouldn't get too excited, they say to double perceived volume (approx) an increase of power by 10dB is required, that's like going from 50W to about 500W to be twice as loud.

The Rumble 200 uses the icePower 50ASX2 amplifier module which is capable of 220W into 4 ohms.

I have learned on this site that ohms are not 4 or 8 but some kind of variation depending on WHO KNOWS WHAT? Anyway, I stick to my guns, my Rumble 500 sounds great and is loud enough
Think of a speaker like an electric motor (which is actually what it is). When you load up a motor it uses more gas, it's resistance changes depending on the load. A speakers resistance varies depending on the note you play and the resistance the cone see's to the air, mechanical stiffness, cabinet size etc . . It's a real complex thing.

Yep, I concur. I am not an electrical engineer, KBD has a bit of experience here, obviously but again, the Rumble 500 sounds great and is loud enough. Sorry for the repetitiveness, I will sit back and watch the drama unfold.:roflmao:

I liken speakers to more like solenoids with dashpods than motors, even linear motors. You send a very low frequency to a solenoids, and you might fry it. (done that).
