Fender Rumble Club

I was on a thread in the Amps and Cabs Forum and the discussion included reference to the '60's Dynaco MKlll 60 watt amp that I had way back then. @bobbyyoung53 was kind enough to correct me as I thought it was 100 watts. I played it thru a cab with 2-15 JBL D140F's.

I just picked up a Fender Rumble 200c which Fender rates at 140 watts thru it's 1-15" and wonder how it would compare with Dynaco's "60 real watts, RMS continuous at < 1% distortion", power-wise? Also, if the Rumble was connected to a second 15" cab would it have less, the same or more power?

I know this is a "which watts" issue that's been discussed before but "real watts" is new to me.

2nd cab=more power.

It would get the full 200 watts, then.

Don't know the answer to that. At face value, 200 > 60, but then what watts? Or is that which watts?

It's probably "who's watts";). Dynaco's 60 or Fender's 140. Don't know if we want to go back to the past discussion...

I do know that the Dynaco setup years ago was plenty loud enough to fill a 100 x 75 ft. auditorium with a stage and 20 ft ceiling. I currently am not in a gigging band and I do not have the second cab so I was hoping that someone might know if the Dynaco's type of rating is similar to Fender's.

Any chance you could also measure the response at the headphone out (which adds Speaker Cab Sim) and Line Out (which adds the HPF and Speaker Cab Sim) then compare the three?

Hi @JKos .. As you asked if I could measure the 'Line Out' and 'Headphone' output compared to the 'Effects Send' and as you can see the line out and headphone offers near identical result apart from the line out (XLR) being rolled off at the low end.
Blue via effects send, Red via XLR (line out), Yellow headphone out. Black reference signal.
All tone controls at 12 o'clock. You can see that considerable 'scoop' or bass and treble boost has been applied to the line and headphone outputs. Wasn't expecting that.. Hope you find this useful :)

If you set the tone controls so the response evened out, wouldn't that be considered "flat" rather than 12 o'clock?

We are looking at the relative difference between the three outputs. As long as the tone controls are in the same position for each measurement, you can deduce the impact of the speaker cab sim (the additional mid dip and high-end roll-off of the red and yellow lines) and the HPF (the low end roll-off of the red line).

Would it be a worthwhile exercise to adjust the controls and measure each output so each curve is as flat as possible so the user would know where "flat" is?

Could be done but by design it's not completely possible. I posted this a while back showing approx positions for flat(ish) via the FX send. The line and headphone output are too extreme to flatten in any useful way and likely does not matter.
