I agree...I , as well, hope he gets relaxed and is back soon...thanks for remembering "happy fender friday". I was hoping someone would.

Is the Laney a tube amp? What cab are you running it with? Or is it a combo?

You may just need to have a tech check the Laney out and possibly add a cab. More speakers move more air so more volume.

It's a Laney with a badge or model number with 300 in it, so I'm assuming it's 300 watts? It's a combo covered in gorilla fur or is that 70s studio carpet. I dunno. I forgot to mention that I'd been using one of those Boss multi-effects units (me50 or some such). I mainly used it for compression and the occassional chorus. At the last rehearsal I ditched the effects and went straight in. It seemed to give me more volume without straining. The thing is the Laney bass amp belongs to the guitarist and, besides, I like to (eventually) have my own 'special' gear.

At the band talk, the guitarist (let's call him DM, for brevity), found what he thought might be a really good option: TC Electronic BG500 210. From what I gather the thing is heavy and prone to button loss. Not to mention it has no room for extension cabs. I dunno. Perhaps I have to fight my loyalty to Fender. Like I said, I'm a simple guy when it comes equipment and tone. Sure, when I buy something important I'll wait off until I can buy the US-made instead of the Mexican. And this is only because I have this sentimental attachment and loyalty to supporting companies on their home soil. Yeah, I'm one of those 'buy local, buy seasonal' types.

Anyway, the talk did add some extra confusion, cos the TC was going for A$500, half the price of the Rumble combo.

@TST Depending on yr volume needs. . the 500 combo is a great size and easy as pie to move about.. and has plenty of volume ... adding a matching 210 cab will get you a heap MORE volume... but most don't NEED it. .. want is a different matter.
Ps. Sounds great with a P Bass also !

I suppose the size puts me off, in a funny kind of way. It just doesn't look like it's big enough to deliver. But, yeah, I know ... size doesn't matter and all that.

I suppose I'm completely torn between 1) Rumble 500 210 combo @ A$1000 against 2) Rumble 500 head + 410 rumble cab @ $1500.

What's the better deal. I really like the sound of 10s over 15s.

The Rumble 500 combo is a great gigging amp. I've been gigging with one for over 2 years. Without an extension, it is fine for your average bar gig.

As long as everyone isn't screaming "Can you turn it up just a bit more!?" Of course, it might mean many other things. They're all playing too f&@%ing LOUD or I forgot to turn the amp on, because I'm also the singer.

If its a Laney LV300, its about 130w, if its a Laney R8, then 300w. per the manuals. The LV300,has ecc83, tubes, (same as 12ax7) probably in the preamp.
Regarding US made amps,vs. Mexican amps, I wonder where they sourced the parts.

In all honesty, the Laney is a good amp. We're probably just too damn loud.

I understand the parts dilemma, but that's a little unavoidable unless you're willing to pay 'bespoke' prices. The first 6-string I bought was an Australian Maton. The actual guitar was made only a couple of hours drive from me. I like that. When it came to the P-bass, and Fender in particular, I was willing to wait for the right instrument to come to me. I was playing a decent 777 P-bass, so I didn't feel a big rush, except I did want to own my own. As is so often the case, a year in the waiting and my little black beauty arrived. I suppose also because I'm naturally quite frugal and live a pretty contented simple life when I buy stuff I want it to be pretty good. Pretty darn good.

I bought mine from Bass Centre Melb. and also a 115 cab to go with it..the rig really pumps air and sounds great with plenty of headroom and as a bonus the 500C is only 36.5 lbs. (16.6 kg weight) and the 115 cab is just a tad heavier at 39 lbs. I wouldn't sell it for anything.

Looks great. So many players are going the combo + 115 route. Yeah, I'll be heading down to the Bass Centre in a couple of days. Just gotta re-count the coins ...

Guy at BC Melb did me a deal I couldnt refuse TST when I quoted him a couple Adelaide music store prices for the same rig..so give him a go..good bunch of fellas there.

I don’t have a R500 but from all reports - ie not just from this club thread - I think you will be fine, as long as you like the sound I guess.

The combo vs head/cab is your call but either way you can always add another cab sometime down the line.
Maybe try the head with the 210 ad well.

I’m a Sydney boy but dropped in to the Bass Centre Sth Melb when I was down on a work trip. I just had s look around, tried a few things and had s chat. Very nice guys and accommodating. Give them a go.

It's an RBW300

did you happen to look at the back of your amp, the manual says 5a fuse for 120v. And 2a for 230v, this indicates you probably have a 300w amp. The amps pros don't like my method, but when it's all one has, it has to do.
You know, this is a fender rumble thread and this discussion is near heresy, too ,much talk and they might kick me out of the frc, and tell me " you got sell your rumbles "

I may not have the depth of many here but I did buy a New Rumble 40 last year and it has proven to be the handiest thing for our type of music/gigs (Americana). At small gigs it holds its own and with our PA (Dual Mackie Thumpers) I am heard with great tone. Used with one of my Ibanez Mikros generally. Plus anyone who picks it up says "This weighs NOTHING!"

Just received my new Fender Rumble 115 cab yesterday and brought it to a gig that same night. For what it is, it kicked the crap out of my old Hartke VX410. I can't heap nearly enough praise on that little powerhouse. Everyone in the group noted what a marked difference it was; the guitarist (with whom I've been playing for 4 year now) said that it had more bite and more attack than the 410, which surprised me. Granted, I know the Hartke VX series is pretty low end, but I've never played on a 15 before and I love it.
