Fender Rumble Club

Hey guys I'm wondering how well does the input gain stage handle hot active basses on say the Rumble 500 head? I bought a TE Elf and my Music Man Sterling makes my light go from green to red with the gain set just above zero and the amp shuts down for a few seconds. Really noticeable when heavy finger picking or slapping, I can get by if I back the volume on my bass off 50% but who does that?
Question is should the Elf go home and get exchanged for a Rumble or is the grass not greener?

Like the old Python skit about Australian fighting wines, the BG500 is a good amp to lie down and avoid.

Not TC’s finest moment- dodgy reliability and support, and nowhere near the same tone and punch as the Rumble 500 combo. The 500c is pretty much the jewel in the Rumble crown.

I know I sound like a broken record this morning, but IMO, the ELF is truly horrible, the worst product they ever released. Trace Elliot owners ought to be able to sue TE for having dreamt it up...

The gain control works like a variable input pad on the Rumble, and the internal Delta-Comp limiter makes signal clipping virtually impossible (or at least very hard to do). I play mainly active Musicman basses with my Rumbles, and I’ve never had any problems whatsoever. Buy with confidence.

It seems like when I plug my active Ibanez into my Rumble 200 and turn on the overdrive, it's more of a fuzz effect than when I use my passive basses. With those, I can get that nice warm growling overdrive. The only thing I can think of that would cause this is the hotter pickups. Do you notice the same thing?

Can’t say I’ve noticed - but then I don’t use the overdrive much, myself. Still, it does make sense, if the settings on the Rumble are the same in both cases. I would suggest you back off the GAIN control a little for your Ibanez, as this affects the level of the input signal, and hence the distortion level of the overdrive.

Okay, but I've never had a volume issue other than being asked to turn down. I was in a venue rated for 800 people. There were about 300 attending. I was play with two guitars and a drummer that has two volumes, really loud and way too loud. I had the master and volume both about 12, playing a P, and was told I was overpowering and please turn down. And, there is always the XLR out, so I wouldn't discount the 500 on volume at all.

I would like to once again go back to the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] for the Rumble combos ...

So this is what it looked like initially and it didn't work (click for picture). No biggie, all it took was to switch the red and black wires at the jack output and the footswitch would work. But! The diode would stop working for some reason (the diode worked before, but the footswitch was not switching the channel).
So I thought switching the two diode wires(?) (click for picture) at the switch would help, but it basically reverted the footswitch to it's original state somehow, so it doesn't work again ...

I would really really like to have the diode working. It seems like a really easy thing but I just have no idea what to do. Anyone here who could help?

I have a Sterling 5 HS and a Rumble 200 Combo - I have played them together without any of the issues you mention... I have also use my G&L L2K with the Rumble, and it's one of the hottest basses I own - hope this helps...

I had the opportunity to play a Rumble 500 combo, at an open mike, liked the tone I got and have plenty of volume, and was surprised at how lite the unit was, I'd bet the additional 2x10 cabinet, would be ..... well icing on the cake, as a side note, I currently use the Rumble 350 head and a Berg HS410, but the form factor & lite weight, has me thinking

Welcome Rumbler #872. The time for thinking is over. You need the 500c and the 2x10 extension. Get it and Rumble on! Your 350 certainly is your ticket to admission to this club.
