Fender Rumble Club

My Rumble 500 combo arrived today! Can't wait to get off work and play with my new toy. If there is room for another Rumble Club member I'd be honored, if not thanks anyway to everyone who has posted about this setup, thanks for leading me in the right direction. I'm hoping Santa brings the 15 cab next month.

Welcome to the Fender Rumble Club, JovianStar! :woot: You are member #275 :hyper:
The magic tone mojo of the Rumble 500 combo on top of the Rumble 115 cabinet has become legendary :bassist:

 Rumbles Rock! :smug:

I am a lucky old fart, and I'm grateful for all of my good fortune. I'm 59 years of age, so being realistic, I don't lust for excitement the way a younger man does (speaking of myself). I no longer judge life by how much fun I can engage in. As I have aged I tend to place contentment atop my list of pursuits.. I perceived every day a "good day" as long as it was void of anything bad. Life was good, and I was content. Then one day while getting into some funky tunes on the radio, I found myself focusing on the bass guitar as never before. Little did I know at that time I was about to challenge myself to learn how to play the bass guitar. Forget about answering questions such as why the bass and why now. Impulsiveness is not one of my traits, procrastination is, or was. It has been 7 months since my rebirth. I am a lucky man. Was it serendipity, or Divine intervention that day seven months ago that inspired me to act? What I do know is that I'm having the time of my life as I learn how to become one with my bass. I had lost touch of what it feels like to be full of enthusiasm. I feel like a much younger man, with optimism as to what tomorrow will bring. Enough already about me. What is important is that today I brought home a Rumble v3 500. I'm as happy as a little girl. I have soo much to learn. It is an early Christmas gift to my self. Life is Great, and I am greatful.

Congratulations on your purchase, dbbltime, and welcome. If more people did what you did the world would be a much kinder place.

Ya might want to suppress the "Happy as a little girl" reference because I believe most of the members here are rough, burly, macho man-types, but I think we get your point...

Enjoy playing your bass!

Sup fellow Rumblers! I've been Rumbling on my Rumble 350 head for about 2 years now and had a question. I plugged into an SWR Headlite and it sounded really similar to my 350. Like except for the Aural Enhancer and fx blend I'd swear they were the same amp. I know Fender absorbed SWR's R and D dept and I was wondering if the preamp is essentially the same but with cheaper components. Any knowledge to share/ CAN I HAVE A NUMBER? :D

I traded my V2 350 head for a 150 head and a bit of cash. I need a bass terror for my main band, it provides the sound I am looking for! but i will keep the 150 head for home use and as a backup! I like the rumble heads a lot so that's the way to do it.

You most surely can, friendlybass! Welcome to the Fender Rumble Club. You are member #277 :hyper:
Fender Rumbles are designed by Fender's own engineering department. I have posted a series of Rumble Talks that explain most everything.

 Rumble On!

Just received my Rumble 500 combo today. It sounds great, but I'm getting a mild distorted type sound or cabinet buzz on certain frequencies--namely a D note on the E and A strings. And that's not up real loud. I checked for loose screws and made sure the grille cloth was seated securely--but still there. Maybe just needs a little speaker break in time? Has anyone else experienced this?

It's a price you have to pay for having a light and cheap cab/amp. I have v2 112, v3 115 and 500H. Both cabs resonate and rattle every now and then. Even the 500 head (metal cover) rattles after 6 months of use. No such a problems with my old (heavy!) Peavey cabs. I suggest to remove the speaker and searching for all things loose and using a clue for tightening everything.

I've always put a rubber pad between the 500H and the cabs when I've cranked them. as they might not have the weight required to sit still, this minimizes vibration (and walking/other movement) which *may* (and may not) cause problems down the road ...

I have a G-K MB200, which is stoopid light. The cab I use it with has a tilt-back foot, yet I've never had a problem with the head moving, even on long gigs (5 hours). Ditto with my MB800, which is a little heavier, but packs a massive punch.

I guess it depends on how rigid your cabs are, especially the top panel. Or maybe the magnetic feet on the Rumble heads don't have as much grip when they're used with a cab that doesn't have the matching cups?

I've had no problems with rattles or buzzes from my Rumble 100 V3 combo, but I had it apart the first day to look at the internal construction. Also, I ended up bracing it with a couple of pieces of 3/4" dowel, which stiffened it up some.

I had a G-K MB110 before this. No rattles, but it was heavier, inferior tone and volume, and nearly $100 more. My feeling is that when I get a combo that's this light, sounds this good, and saves me money, I don't mind the thought of maybe having to tighten a couple of fasteners.

I've never experienced any movement, but based on what other players have reported (or that I've read on tb; head falling off cab, etc), I've decided to use a thin rubber layer between the head and cab just in case, especially since I'm not using the Rumble cabs with magnetic rumble seating ...

Well that certainly is disconcerting to say the least, stringmaster54. Since it is brand new, you can always exchange it for another brand new Rumble 500 combo. Something I would do first is to go ahead and carefully pull the woofers out making sure all connections are good and tight. Remove any loose or foreign material that might be in the cabinet. Then wiping down the baffle board surface and woofer gaskets with a clean dry cloth reinstall them snugging down the screws in a criss-cross star pattern several times applying even tourque to each one until tight. Leave the grill off at first and test it out. If fixed, great! If not then an exchange is in order.

There are other fixes, but they would void your warranty.

On the bright side, you get a hale & hearty welcome to the Fender Rumble Club, stringmaster54. You are member #278
