Fender Rumble Club

By all means,

Happy Fender Friday!

This is NOT an actual product! Only a Photoshop simulation.

We can dream, can't we?

Hell, I'd still be tickled pink just to get this kind of mod...

Alright, a belated gig report.

Got to use the full set up of the Rumble 500 Head into 2 x 210v3 cabs for the first time last weekend. The opening band happened to be great friends of mine, so I loaned my rig to their bass player and got a preview of it would sound out front. And it sounded amazing! Brent (their bass player) had a Grin from ear to ear the whole time and after his show was asking me how much a rig like this would run him. And he about fell over when I said how much they cost new. The look of hope and disbelief covered his face. And then when he helped me move the amp and cabs off for the next band, I think it sealed the deal for him. So I think we will have a new Rumble member soon.

And As far as for my set, It was awesome. Sounded great and a few times all I heard was me and the drums. I had to ask the sound man to put more vocals and guitars in my monitor. Asked for the bass in my monitor to be lowered or turned off. I didn't need it, the amp was in my ear. I loved it.

Not saying the Rumble is the be all, end all amp. But I will say it does great for live performance and is probably one, if not the best, bang for the buck deal out there in bass amplification. Great tone after you get a handle on how to dial it in. And I'm not too worried about schlepping around to clubs and bar gigs.

I'd really would love to have the Super Bassman 300 and cabs, but I can't wrap my head around the cost for the gigs I play when I have the Rumbles backing me up. I like the fact that it doesn't cost a ton to replace and the tone is great. I am making plans to get a second 500 head to keep as a back up, a CYA deal. I've had amps crap out on my on stage too many times to not have a backup. Who knows, it may lead to a double rig setup for really stupid stage presents. Not like I don't have it already.... lol

I use the exact same rig for med to large gigs...paired with my 77 Jazz and a Diamond compressor, the tone is very full and warm, but still punchy and crystal clear. IME, thats been a difficult balance to achieve live. I also like the fact that i can pair down to one cab for smaller gigs. I agree that they are likely the best deal out there when you compare price, tone, power and portability.
Ironically enough, I had been using a GK MB212-ii and initially bought the Rumble head/210 as a backup. However, no long after the GK ended up staying home most of the time. I do like the option of having an amp with a completely different tonal footprint, so I still use the GK from time to time.

The Bassman 500 as shown above is to match your guitarist playing through this: (And, of course, everyone in the band wears matching outfits, too!)

It looks much better with these knobs, and they don't get sticky after aging either.

Well, it actually comes equipped with those knobs, so . . . . .

Anyone know if these knobs would fit the Rumble combos?

Yes. Yes, they do. That's known as "blackfacing" your Rumble in the Fender Rumble Modifications section of the Fender Rumble Club Wiki Page.

I was concerned that those might hit one another on my Rumble 500 head. That's why I went with the Jazz tone knobs on it. Now I even prefer the Jazz knobs to the Fender amp knobs.

If you read the link and get the right size they fit fine:

Personally, I find the original white knobs easier to see on a dark stage. And, knock wood, mine have never gotten sticky, yet.

Believe it of not, I too have and use the GL MB212II combo. I also have a GK MB115II too that I use for smaller gigs.

And you are 100% correct. I like the idea of just 1 cab and the head for smaller gigs as well and the idea of the GK's for different flavors. I'm looking at getting a Rumble 115 cab or 2 as well to mix it it up. I may very well end up with a 3rd 210 to leave at rehearsal space and make life that much easier.

We have a lot of the same gear:) Are you using covers, hauling them around to clubs and such the cabs really benefit from a solid cover, keeps the torlex from tearing and getting banged up.
I recently picked up a GK MB112 for small winery, coffee shop gigs and rehearsals, the 115 was still a bit too large. Its ridiculously light weight, portable and surprisingly more mid forward than its 212 bigger brother.

No covers yet. The GK one has been out of stock forever. And it has only been a few weeks since my current band has insisted on the Fender as my main amp. Only my 2nd gig with them. I should order the covers for the cabs.

I have one of each of these:
The Fender made cover is very inexpensive but is more of a dust cover. It will protected it from light rain, minor scrapes and such.

These are a bit more $, but made right here in Michigan, and the material is a thick, felt lined nylon that offers better protection.

Quick question... could someone tell me if, when using this footswitch with a V3 head (or combo)... does it also control the Overdrive's LED light, as well as perform the channel switching? i.e. does it turn the LED on and off? I'm trying to decide if I want to get by with this one, or the footswitch with it's own LED. THANKS!

Mine lights the LED on the 200c but with it angled I can't see it.
