Fender Rumble Club

On an unrelated note, I cranked my V3 100 up a bit last night.

When I run my Dingwall straight into a DI with both pickups in parallel, I need compression, careful EQ, and some treble cut to smooth it out. Very aggressive and "modern".

In contrast, the Rumble makes it sound fat and round, with just the perfect amount of bite and a monstrous growl on the lower strings. Even with the tone control wide open.

Remembering that it has some cab mods to tame the low mids, I was running the front end like so:
- Gain, 10 o'clock
- All switches off, including the OD
- 4-band EQ at noon, 1:00 o'clock, 2:00 o'clock, and noon, from bass to treble.
- Master, noon.

With these settings, it isn't obviously distorted, but it isn't completely clean, either. Kind of like a B-15 being pushed a bit.

My big rig crushes the Rumble for headroom, clarity, and a solid low B. But within its limited dynamic range, the little Rumble is perfect for classic rock and R&B tones.

Just picked up the rumble 40 for small blues gigs and acoustic stuff. Sounds great with the upright. I ended up getting rid of my ampeg micro vr to downsize to the 40. No regrets- I've never really been a fan of the vr. Now I might trade in my Genz Benz 115 Contour combo for the rumble 500. I wonder how genz benz compares to these rumbles in terms of quality?

I'm sure you'll love your Rumble 40  I've only played one Genz Benz rig in my life, and I did like it. I'm sure that the quality is very comparable. Just check out the built and sound quality of your new Rumble 40. The 500 has the very same front end, so that will tell you a lot right there.

 Rumbles Rock! :smug:

Hi I'm new here and from the UK .... been playing since 1967 and had my Fender p bass since1972 . and how things have changed! In the 70s I had 120w Sound City plus 2 4x12 cabs and two people to move and set up then in the 80s/90s had Trace Elliot 200w 4x10 combo again really needed two to move it. ..... and now My good wife surprised me this Christmas with a Rumble 500 combo that I can lift with one finger! and sound better than the stack and the Trace combo ... Just need to join a band now!
