Fender Rumble Club

That would have worked quite well, I'll do that next time. Thanks.

One time I had the most difficult time getting a push-on knob off a Charvel.
In the end I actually had to put flat screwdrivers on both sides of it & pry it up carefully.

The trick is not to pry from one side as it'll bend the pot shaft & it could break when you bend it back.

Well, I bought my first bass a couple of weeks ago, then spent the better part of 4 days researching what I wanted for my 1st bass amp. After days and days on end watching videos of every bass amplifier imaginable - I finally picked a winner. Just placed an order for a Fender Rumble 500 V3 Bass Amplifier Head and two Black Grilled Fender Rumble 210 V3 Bass Speaker Cabinets. I figure go big AND loud, or go home. With Christmas shipping schedules delaying the arrival I'll have to wait a bit longer than I'd like, but I should be rocking the new amps before New Year's day! They say they'll ship on Christmas Eve - I certainly hope so!

Would love to have a number and be part of the Fender Rumble Club - Thanks!

I think you absolutely made the right choice. That's going to be a glorious amp.:bassist:

I think so too. In the end it came down to the Mesa Subway and the Rumble 500. I absolutely LOVED the "look" of the Mesa, but I found a video review on the net that left me wanting. I watched the video reviewer twisting the dials on the Mesa, but MY ears didn't hear much change. I'm sure others will have different opinions - but that's mine.

My only issue with the Rumble was the color of the knobs - and that don't affect performance. So I could have opted for the better "looker" or the better sound - and sound won out. Then I found the wiki page and the post on "black facing" the Rumble! Only Issue Solved! Placed the order that day. Gonna replace those knobs as soon as it gets here. With the two black grilled 210's it'll look as good as it sounds!

Definitely a great first amp, my first amp was a Peavey TNT 100.

I put these:

on my R200c and R40. Found them online, either Ebay or Amazon. They're slightly smaller in diameter(fit the shafts just fine)and come with a screwdriver for the set screws. Sorry 'bout the fuzzy pics-flip phone. 1020181127-00 (1).jpg Ignore Doormat :smug:

I get it, it's a bit of an overkill for a first amp - but I have this "issue". I tend to buy for the future... In my mind I'm the world's greatest bass player and I'm rocking the stage with the two 210's stacked and the Rumble head ruling the roost... What can I say, I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one...
It's OK to 'Imagine';)

I think it's a smart move. You'll probably never need another amp. In the end that could save you an incredible amount of cash and it's more environmentally friendly. Double win.:D

I also approve of the blackfacing of the amp. That's going to look really good and match the black cabs much more.

I can't say too much about Mesa amps. I like what I have heard and seen of em, except the price.

Those Mesa videos were not the best. The knobs do a lot. It's a great sounding amp. But the Rumble 500 also sounds great, just different. The Mesa has more depth, while the Rumble seems more mid-focused and overall punchier. I like them both for different things, the Mesa for rock, the Rumble for R&B and the like.

That would have worked quite well, I'll do that next time. Thanks.

The vice grips didn't do much damage. Zero would have been better but chances are good I'll never put the old knobs back on. Worst case I'll swap the treble knob with the worse of the two OD knobs. I never touch that one.

I got them off eBay. Nothing special they were just the cheapest I found that would do the trick. They're ever so slightly smaller in diameter and about 5mm shorter though. They look like they were meant to be there, but the stock knobs feel better.

You have chosen wisely.

I wasn’t in love with the white knobs either, until I discovered that it makes the control panel really easy to read, especially at a distance. MUCH more user friendly than my old Ampeg combo. Also, the preset buttons can’t be changed anyway, so I let it stay the way it was.

It was a tough call. And I agree, videos are a poor choice to base a decision on, but the nearest Guitar Center to me is 90+ miles away (and I'm not even sure they carry Mesa) - point is I don't really have any place near me I can try these things out. As such, I need to shop online and try my best to make an informed decision.

The price of the Mesa 800 was roughly double the Rumble 500, so that was a factor too. Then there was the part of me that said "hey, the 800+ is only $100 more - you should just get that". Then the little devil that sits on my left shoulder pipped in and said "Dude - the new Mesa WD-800 has that awesome tube and it's just a messly $100 bucks more that that..." Of course the matching cabs were close to a grand each so we're now "cost justifing" a $3000 price tag for the same configuration as the Rumble! It was somewhere around there I had to remind myself that I started out looking at a Rumble 40 combo amp...

I have a Mesa D800+ with two Mesa 115 cabs and love it. But honestly, I think it's the cabs I love most, and just "like" the D800+.

I loved my Rumble 500 with two 112s. The thing about the difference between the heads is that the Rumble doesn't go as deep as the Mesa.

I'm kind of a gear whore, but if I was on a budget, I'd be perfectly happy with a Rumble 500 head and a single 115 cab or two.

I used to have the Rumble 500 combo as well, and gigged it a lot and liked it a lot. These days, I'd get two 115 cabs with the Rumble head. I was really impressed with the sound of the Rumble 200/115 in a store the other month.
