Fender Rumble Club

Crap. Another cancelled band practice tonight. Guess I’ll be hitting the man cave for some solo jamming today instead.

Wow! That IS a ripping good rig there, Ripper!! Lovely basses, too.

But, ... er, uh ... is Office Depot now selling fireworks, too??? Little early for the 4th of July, isn't it? :roflmao:
.

Guess I never asked to join officially. Ready to take a number.....

Hello, JP! Welcome to TalkBass and the Fender Rumble Club. Glad you found us. Sorry if we overlooked your posts. All these photos of our various beautiful Rumbles are so eye-catching sometimes I just scroll through looking at the pictures!

As Gravey Davy said, please post a photo or at least tell us about your Rumble, what you like best, your settings, etc.
.

Welcome Rumbler # 1081! That's a lot of amp for private practice. I can't read the headstock on you bass. What is it? That fretless on the wall looks good, too. Rumble on!
Thanks, It's an Epiphone Vintage Pro. I'm an old guy learning to play bass, been taking lessons for a year, loving it. For me it's all the bass amp I'll ever need. I like the sound and Wi-Fi connectivity. (I may have an obsessive compulsive disorder.)

If any other Studio/Stage owners are having trouble with flaky Bluetooth connections, do you have tips/tricks to get it to connect. At this point I'm just as likely to get "unable to connect" from my phone (Samsung Note8) as to have it work correctly.

Stage 800 owner here, I use an iPhone 8 and have had no troubles with Bluetooth or Wifi in the 6 months I have had this amp. Wonderful amp by the way, highly recommended.

Ha! My youngest is obsessed with fireworks so I have to always have some ready to go!! My neighborhood is almost as loud as my Rumble rig!!

Nice setup. What size speakers are in those?
Both are 410’s. Sounds great in my man cave. I haven’t had a chance to use them with the band yet. I’ll probably only use one 410 for now, and drag the other out if we play any outdoor shows this summer. More power than I’ll ever need, but nice to have “just in case.”

Maybe we should start an "old guy learning to play bass" club... at 68 and 5 months in, I think I'd qualify :-) But having a blast and learning songs as quick as possible to play along with my friends.

Happy to see I'm not only "old guy" starting out, I'm 67, have a friend in the same business and same age who invited me to see his band play in a local club a year ago. He's been playing for Fun and relaxation for a few years. Read the book Guitar Zero and identified with the authors 'No talent' failed guitar tries during his life and decided to follow his method, everyday practice , lessons and effort. I love it, practice everyday after work, twice on Sundays.

When my friend suggested to a couple of us to come by and sing along some old classic rock songs, I mentioned that I had this old bass guitar that I never really learned... great! Looked through his list of a bunch of possible songs and found one that looked pretty easy (Beatles "If I Fell") and a week later tried it out and it wasn't a complete disaster. So I was hooked.

JPDsma here. Jim Douglas living in San Miguel de Allende. Playing with a JugBand. Played in a tiny band in college in Gunnison CO ~75. Sold my SB450 in ~80. Just really needed to get back to music and the bass in Winter ‘17. Picked up the Michael Kelly Dragonfly. Love it but not really the sound I want. Picked up a new fretless JB a month ago (April ‘19). At 64 And being off-bass for 40 years, I think I qualify for the geezers learning bass club, too. Trying to post this pic again, both basses and Rumble 200. Love the Wiki!

Welcome Rumbler #1082! Nice gear. I have a Mike Kelly Dragonfly 5 fretless. I noticed you, like I, have it strung with tapes. I agree it isn't an everyday tone, but there are times I use it. Glad to have you among us. Rumble on!

I really dithered on 5 and fretless when getting the MK. Finally decided to keep it simple for relearning with fretted 4. It really gets compliments in the inlayed neck. I do love it for many JugBand songs so far. Looking forward trying the fretless JB with the band when these fellow geezers finally return from the States in August! Had the D’Adds on my SB450 years ago for looks, sound and feel. Still love them for those same reasons on these two.

When you bought the bass, did it have phosphor strings? I've found they sound best with acoustic instruments. I use my Breedlove that has the phosphor strings for an acoustic P&W gig I do weekly, and I'm working on a project that is a duo, an acoustic guitar and me. In both cases, I use my Rumble 40 v3. I put the tapes on the Mike Kelly to try to get as close as possible to an upright sound.

Folks, I am an old man, my car is too small, and for unknown reason we often play in clubs in basements.

I own a Markbass 121P and a Traveler 121H, 500W output together, 12 kg plus 16kg = 28 kg.

The Fender Rumble 500 weighs 17kg, the Rumble Stage 800 weighs 18kg, they are smaller than my combo and amp, and prices are quite attractive.

Is that an alternative? We play Grunge (Pearl Jam style), Post-Grunge and Sludge (à la Melvins).
