Fender Rumble Club

Hi, can I ask a follow up question about linking non-modelling rumbles...
If 2 combos are stacked vertically how do you set the volume on the bottom one? I would think the control will be inaccessible?? I understand that tone is determined pre-send on the top one, but not sure about the practicalities of setting this up.
Thanks, Doug
you don’t need to access the second amps control. They get totally bypassed. I am speaking only about the 500 combo because I haven’t tried any other combos.

While I don’t have reduced hearing I do have tinnitus. And I couldn’t agree more. PROTECT YOUR HEARING, Y’ALL!
I’ve had tinnitus forever. I thought it was normal, till the audiologist testing my hearing said it wasn’t. I now have hearing aids because I am almost deaf it seems. When the aids are in I usually don’t hear the tinnitus.

I noticed my tinnitus a few years back, but it usually doesn’t bother me that much on a day-to-day basis. My hearing is still OK, so I’m very careful when it comes to using earplugs.

hi all, can I start by saying what a useful and very mutually supportive club this is! I learned a lot reading through as much as I could.
I recently bought the Rumble 800 head after a lot of reading and over-thinking! I also have a pair of v3 112 cabs but I'm wondering whether they're a good match for the head? As you will know, they're rated at 250W each but the head can put out 400W into each. My thoughts are:

Option a) set the 800HD to 4 ohm mode and each cab will see 400W (max). In reality I'd never turn it all the way up so they'd see about 200-250W I would *guess* in real world situations. My issue here is that if I want to get really loud I might endanger the cabs and I am also unsure about how loud 2 of these cabs can go. I say that having never gigged this rig thank to CoViD though, so your feedback would be great.

Option b) set the 800HD to 2ohm mode and each cab would only see about 200W (max) - that's my guess anyway. This way they would never be overpowered but I'd be losing some headroom.

other options might be; speaker replacements to make them both 400w 8ohm cabs, get a third cab, sell them both and get 2 new 8ohm cabs that can do 400w each. ... basically ... what is a good cab combination for the 800 head??

For context, my situation is that I would probably never need to run the 800HD anywhere near full power. An honest 400w 2x12 rig will be enough for anything I'm likely to do but I can't seem to let this go. Too much reading and not enough playing at the moment!

Thanks for your helps guys.

Hi!! I owned a Rumble 800 head for 2 years. Rumble cabs are definitly not good enough.
I started getting satisfied when I swapped my 410Rumble to a GK 212. Gets way more low end and definition. The Rumble cabs just muddy things way too much, sound boxy and will fart if you push it a little.
I can say the head is quite good. It has a lot of power amd setting options. I liked it. As long as you play 4 string basses youre OK. If you are into 5 strings or high end basses, this rig just won't let them shine to their full potential.

If you like the sound you're getting with this configuration and you don't have a need to get stupid loud, I'd say you're set!
Those V3 112 cabs are awesome - got one under my 500 combo and VERY happy with my rig!

Hi, Dougie! Show us a pic of your Rumble and join The Club.

First of all, I agree with your assessment of the 4 ohm mode with just two Rumble V3 112 cabs.

But I disagree with your assessment of the 2 ohm mode. The 800 HD will still output up to 800 continuous watts in 2 ohm mode with a 4 ohm load connected (just two 8 ohm cabs). [I dunno what, if any, disadvantage there is to setting the 2 ohm mode while using only a 4 ohm load.] You should connect, at least, three 8 ohm cabs to correctly use the 2 ohm mode, thus giving each cab a max 266.67 watts continuous which should be fairly safe for the 112s.

Hope this helps.

Also the volume is controlled by the ”master” combo, so no need to adjust the volume, or any of the other knobs on the ”slave”. You can have the knobs on the slave in any position, they will not affect the output at all. Everything is adjusted from the master.

you don’t need to access the second amps control. They get totally bypassed. I am speaking only about the 500 combo because I haven’t tried any other combos.

I would like to point out that connecting two combo amps by one's FX Send to the other's FX Return gives total control of the tone & volume to the Sending amp for V3 Rumbles and some other amps, but not all other amps!. For example, I have a pair of older Bassman combos where the Sending amp does not control the other amp's volume, instead it's own Master does that.

Hope this helps.

I was curious about this as well. I know in some other amps that go down to a 2ohm load, if you switch to run in 2ohm but only use 8/4ohm speaker load, the actual output/watts of the amp will be lower due to not pushing the amp to the full wattage/power at a lower ohmage (hmmm, I hope that makes sense).....

hi,
thanks @EncoremMP ... yeah that's what i had *assumed*; switch the amp to 2ohms and it with an 8ohm load the amp only produces about 1/4 total power (and with 4ohm it would produce half power) but @G-Dog leads me to think otherwise...

thanks also for the views on the cabs @bhendrix and @Le beau JP .

On the amps I'm referring, the power doesnt necessarily "1/4", but it does diminish. So an 800 watt amp, switched to run at 2ohms (but only running a 4ohm cab load) , would put out about 600 watts into 4ohms. I believe Mesa and Genzler amps function somewhat in this manner.

But again, I do not know and am talking from fourth hand knowledge, obviously, all amp manufacturers differ.

Hello guys,

So this is a kinda bittersweet post. I had to sell my Rumble 500 recently because of all this crazy sh!t going on globally. I lost my job last June and needed some extra cash to cover basic needs of the household. Thanks to God, my wife still has her job and we are surviving. We cannot complain, we are fortunate people. The thing is, I sold my beloved Rumble 500 and got a used Rumble 40... I'm amazed by the power and tone of the little dude. It hurts having to let go the 210 monster, but with this 110 combo, at home, not gigging and not rehearsing for now, it's more than enough. I reassured my love for the V3 Rumbles.

Stay safe. Rock on.

Sad to hear the 500c had to go, but glad you’re hanging in there. As you’re not gigging or rehearsing at the moment, the Rumble 40 is really all you need. Here’s hoping you’ll see better times soon!

That Rumble 40 will serve you well. Best of luck to you and your family! Hopefully, 2021 will see an end to the pandemic and we can get back to some sense of normality. We all are also lucky in that we have our music to help us see it through!

@sgtpepper, I also wish you and your family well in very tough circumstances. I am glad your wife is still employed and you are both healthy. That's the most important thing. And that Rumble 40 truly is amazing. I've used it with a very noisy big band (trumpets, saxes, crazy loud drummer) and everybody could hear me just fine. It is a wonder. I am sure it will serve you well.

Only a big band? Shoot(sp). I use my R40 with a concert band-~60 clarinets, flutes, saxes, trombones, euphoniums, French horns, bass clarinets, bassoons, and a tuba, plus a 3-4 person percussion section. My volume is never above 10 o'clock. Amazing little box of goodness.

Sorry for the financial hard times, peppy. One of my sons is contemplating selling off some of gear for the same reason. That, and his long-time band broke up, he & other members got married, now have young kids. You know, life!

I went through it when my kids came along and I didn't even lose my job, but I was still in college and needed every penny. I didn't replace a thing, back then, just held on to my '60s Eko Ranger VI acoustic guitar. So, I've tried to counsel him that, yes, you may regret it later, just as I have. But there will undoubtedly be better times ahead and this episode, tough as it may be, will give you more perspective, humanity and wisdom to impart later when, if you're lucky, you get to be a GOF.

Hang in there! Glad you were able to stay in the Rumble Family! Keep on Rumblin'!
