Fender Rumble Club

I did an embarrassing thing Rumblers.... I placed an online order for a used Fender Rumble 200c and then promptly went and sold three smaller combo amps to make room around the house: a Rumble 40, Rumble 100, and Ampeg BA108. Feeling good about making room for the new amp and having some cash in my pocket I returned home only to find an e-mail from the proprietor that the order had been canceled because the amp in question had been returned to the store with a blown speaker and he could not sell it--an honorable action. Anyway, the only thing to do at that point was to buy a Fender Rumble 115 cabinet which should be here before the week is out. I really have plenty of amps, heads, and cabinets, but that Rumble 100 was a very sweet thing; 22 lbs of let's go play some bass... I wouldn't have let it go had I known the Rumble 200 would not be mine. While I still have a Rumble 800 head (and other cabs) and an Ampeg PF20T, I will miss the Rumble 100. The next owner will love it.
Sorry to hear that @chupacerveza - it's a cautionary tale, to be sure. I'm very careful not to sell old stuff before the new stuff arrives, for exactly this reason. The only problem being, of course, that the old stuff has a tendency to stick around anyway, so gear tends to accumulate. :)

I used to have a Rumble 100 myself, and I liked it a great deal, but couldn't justify keeping it around once I had a 500c and a 40, so I sold it. I've since aquired a a 210 cab, a Studio 40 and a 15, but the 210 is at our rehearsal space and the 15 is at our drummer's house, so I only keep the 500c and the studio 40 at home (as well as my resurrected 40, which I keep as a backup). But I do miss the 100 sometimes.

Rumble 40c and 200c owner here. Great amps, bought both used for $150 and $260 apiece.

Thanks @JakobT! But seriously, I could write a whole book of cautionary tales!

A military judge once told me,”Good initiative, but poor judgment!”

Then again, life’s too short to be taken too seriously!

Don't despair - I would still keep the 200 on your radar - if you liked the 100 you will absolutely not regret the Rumble 200 - INMHO - The 200 is like an ole B15 with more power - Sweetest sounds ever

Picked up my $125 used Rumble 40 earlier today. Mint condition. Good price.

I'm definitely going to open it up and stuff some polyfill in the cabinet as it has a certain hollow, boxy sound to it. It does not sound boomy or bass heavy like the Rumble 100 I tried a few months back, which is a good thing.

As of right now I'd have to say I like the sound of my 212 Peavey Classic 50 guitar amp better than the Rumble 40 as is. I'll put some polyfill in it and give it another go. I'm sure it will be OK.

Caution: Some have overstuffed their small Rumbles with polyfill and muffled the sound. Seems that lining only 3 of the 6 sides is about optimal for most. ;)

Got a good Geezer Butler sound out of my Rumble 500.

That'll do, droo. That counts as "posting a pic of your Rumble "! (I shoulda thought of this before.) @droo46, you are now member #1290 in the Fender Rumble Club. Welcome, at last, after some outstanding video posts over the past year. Reckon you already know about the Rumble Club Wiki page, where at least one, if not more, of your videos are linked.

Now that you're a card carrying Rumbler, by all means do ... ...

Rumble On!

I would not recommend the polyfill route for anything larger than the 15. The 40 needs none at all, IMHO.

Perhaps just a little polyfill in the port would do the trick, without even turning a screw! Worth a try.

Does a Rumble 15 qualify for a partial membership?
I got a 15 as part of Squier PBJ super cheap bundle (gave the PBJ away for free soon thereafter because it was just... err... not fun to play). I bought this as a COVID19 hobby - to figure out if I'd enjoy playing the bass. Now I need to figure out where to go from here. Is the 15 good enough to use as practice amp? Or should I switch to something "better"?
I expect to never play in public, this really is just to have fun at home...

Sorry, dirk, we do not issue "partial" memberships, "honorary" memberships, co-memberships or anything else like that. Sorry. :(

But your Rumble 15, if it is indeed an actual Fender Rumble 15, does qualify for a full-out, no-holds-barred, all benefits included, real live custom deluxe Rumble Club membership! :D:bassist::hyper:.

Just post a picture of it and you'll get a number!

Wait, what? Are there fake Rumbles? How do I know if mine is an actual Fender Rumble 15?
And I'm still curious if people think that this is a reasonable practice amp or if I'm missing out by not getting something 'beefier'... :D

It looks actual to me. But @G-Dog is the arbiter. :)

Regarding the Rumble 15 or 25, please note that the Rumble 40 has the same preamp as its bigger brothers. The Rumble 15 and Rumble 25 have simpler, less capable preamps.

I am happy with my Rumble 40.

It’s a definitely reasonable practice amp, and for home practice, you won’t really need much more in the way of power.

It does have its limitations, though. The 8" driver is definitely on the small side, the cabinet is unlined, and the preamp is different than that of larger Rumbles. The sound can be a little boxy, but that can be mitigated somewhat with the polyfill fix that was so cruelly derided by @G-Dog a few posts ago. ;)

That said, if you can live with these limitations, the 15 will serve you well enough for now. If you continue on your bass journey, there will be time enough for upgrading later.

If it's working for you in your space, then you're missing nothing.

On the other hand, I can spend as much of your money as you're willing to part with.

So here is the beginners dilemma, right? I don't know what I don't know. I don't know what I'm missing.
To me it sounds 'meh' (I believe that is a technical term). But is that because I suck (most definitely a strong YES on that one), is that because of my bass (second one is on its way), or would a better amp make me suddenly sound like Lee Sklar? Ok, I doubt that last part, but back to the beginning - thanks to COVID19 I haven't really had much chance to try equipment, I really don't know if I'd be ten times happier with a better "home practice amp"... which is why I'm here, making a fool of myself :roflmao:
