Fender Rumble Club

Thanks @Linnin! I was getting confused as some places list them as V3 and others as Rumble 2014.

So this is the V3? Fender Rumble 500 2014 - Thomann UK

Hopefully this adds some clarity to the issue of version naming...

At NAMM 2014, FMIC (Fender Musical Instrument Corp I think is what that means...) introduced the V3 Rumble series combo amps, heads, and cabs. So it can be thought of...

Make = Fender.
Model = Rumble V3 whatever. In the case of my combo, Rumble V3 500 combo.
Year of MFG = 2014.

I do not believe Fender was still producing V2 Rumbles when the V3 was released at NAMM... So in theory, ALL 2014 Rumbles are V3.

However since the V3 spans now 2 model years, 2014 and 2015, and will most likely continue for several more years until they come out with a newer more compelling version (yeah right!) that means not all V3 Rumbles are 2014 Rumbles, My stack is a good example. The 500 combo is 2014, but the 210 extension cab is 2015.

I hope that made sense and didn't muddy things up for you too much...

You are right about that, Dave. Fender Champion 100's are flying off the shelves just like Rumble 500's only they are outselling the Rumble 500's ten-to-one. The Champion 40 would be an excellent choice at $180, and plenty loud. Sound quality and tone would be identical to the 100.
Sure, but flying off the shelves isn't exactly the same thing as being the best slash most desirable. Just look at what guitarists are actually dragging out to the stage. I find more Fender Hot Rods and Vox AC30s than anything else. Not saying that they're necessarily better, because they're not. The point is they strike a balance between gig-worthy and affordable. I read that the Peavey Bandit is actually the most popular amp of all time. I actually love the Peavey Bandit, by the way, but when's the last time you saw one on a stage?

There are a lot of bass and guitar amps that are fine for bedrooms but don't really cut it on a crowded stage. I find most modeling amps to fit in that category. So I love modeling amps as small practice amps, like the Vox VT20+ series and so forth, but as they get bigger and start having to compete with drummers at stage volume, they don't quite do it for me. They sound fine, they just don't quite feel fine. It's hard to describe, but I think the main thing is how they affect sustain and feedback. Simpler amps tend to respond more organically at higher volumes, whereas the digital amps just don't help my tone as much at high volume. Guitar sustain is mostly about how your amp feeds the strings, so to me, using a cheap modeling amp affects my sustain in a way I don't like. The thing is, though, if you're going to pick an amp that doesn't ever make it out to the stage, why bother with a 100 watter 2x12?

Anyway, my choice for a cheap practice amp is the Peavey Envoy 110. Get one from the 90s when they still made those in America, and you'll probably get it for $100. If you want bigger, I really like the early Transtube Peavey Bandits, and I shouldn't really call these amps practice amps because either would be loud and solid enough for stage use. Another great guitar amp that you can find cheap is the Roland Blues Cube 30 or 60. They're also from the 90s, I believe, and they're built in USA. Awesome solid state amps and you probably wouldn't even hear the difference between a good Bandit or a Blues Cube vs. a good tube amp. I certainly wouldn't. They play even better when you turn them up, just like a good tube amp.

I really think that the V3 Rumble will embarrass every other entry level bass amp manufacturer out there into making better products.

Just look at a V3 Rumble 200 vs an entry level Peavey Max 115 or an Ampeg BA115. The best thing you can say about any of those amps is they'd have been ok in 2012, but look at a Rumble 200 instead. The Rumble 200 is the only amp that gives you "real amp" performance at practice amp prices. To find proper competition for it, you'd have to look at higher priced products like the TC BG250-15, GK MB115-II or Hartke Kickback 15, and even then, I'd choose the Rumble over any of them.

The only thing the Rumbles could use is a more flexible XLR out, but to a lot of people, that's not even going to matter that much.

Well, I was about to pull the trigger on the V3 210, but the expected delivery time is 14 days, and I leave on a business trip in 10 days, and will be away for most of April, so I held fire (otherwise I don't get to try it before the 30 day period is up).

Anyways, talking with my "MUCH better half" about the difference in price between the cab and 500 combo, she asked why I didn't just get the combo, and offered to buy it me for my birthday!

My b-day isn't until May, but as she doesn't like buying things online, we found it in stock and placed the order already. Estimated delivery time 24-48 hours!

:hyper:

I will get 8 days to try it out, and if I like it, when I get back from my trips, I will sell the GK combo (I don't need 2 combos) and put it towards a second 210 cab for the Rumble.

:bassist:

14 days....Must be nice. I put an order in through a Canadian chain of music stores just over a month ago, and Im still thinking I'll probably have to wait a couple more for my 2x10.

Anyhow, that's a good woman you got there. Nice B-day gift! You're gonna enjoy it.

I was honestly in a similar boat as you a year ago, looking at cabs + rumble head until I realized that, man, for the money, just get a combo + cabinet instead of head + cabinet. You can almost buy a combo + cabinet stack for the price of a single head + cabinet. And a year later, I'm glad I did that because even though I just got a brand new head and a couple of new cabinets, I still have the Rumble 500 combo for when I want to keep the number of items to a minimum.

However, that was back when V3 210 cabinet didn't exist. I know that would have made the decision a lot harder. Or maybe easier, I don't know.

What GK combo do you have? any comments about it?

I have the the MB112 (1st version), nothing special, just a small light practice combo.

I like the GK, but I have found myself in situations (loudish drummer and guitar) where it is not enough, but I didn't need (or want to take) my big rig.

I was planning on keeping the GK as a nice light practice amp, but then I was only planning on getting the Rumble cab. Now that I have ordered the Rumble combo, as long as I like it, I don't see a reason to keep the GK also, as it is only a few kg lighter than the Fender.

Thanks for the number Linnin, and yes, I agree that my wife is great, although she complains about my BHPD, she keeps adding to the addiction :D

Now I suppose I can't give you a hard time for all the extreme advertising of the Rumble you do in other threads, but I probably will anyway ;)

That's OK, I have thick skin. What's really helpful is when others share their personal Rumble testimony and make recommendations on other threads. That carries a lot of weight especially if you're a gigging bass player.
It's heartening and very encouraging to see these kinds of unsolicited posts being made. Rumble 200's & 500's are most definitely reliable road-worthy & gig-worthy professional grade bass amplification. I'm astounded at the gigs people are playing with the Rumble 100! It's all good. Rumble On!
