Yes, local shops rarely have the bulk purchasing power of the big box chains, or larger online retailers (I.E. Guitar Center and its associated brands, Sam Ash, Amazon...) HOWEVER, I have talked with my local guy, he price matches online pricing on like for like items he carries in stock. Plus on any in stock instruments, they are given a full setup and inspection, I have yet to see any duds in his shop, whereas with online purchasing its a crap shoot. He manages to price match, offer superior service, AND pull a reasonable profit from a clean, appealing, and up to date shop not some run down strip mall shop like a lot of them I have seen.
I'm certain he would be more than happy to sell me whatever I needed price matching online pricing, however I KNOW I have paid more to go to him and not even tried to price match due to the service I get from him and his staff. (Fender 20' tweed jacket instrument cable, $27.99 on Amazon, $31.99 + tax locally)... But more importantly...
When I looked last he had a Fender Rumble 100, Fender Rumble 200 combo, Fender Rumble 500 Combo, Fender Rumble 115 cab, Fender Rumble 410 cab, Fender Rumble 10 cab, and even a trade in Fender Rumble V2 2x8 cab. Price tags on each of them were exactly at where Musiciansfriend had them listed...
We talked a bit about amplification, and why he had so much Fender in stock, Rumbles, Mustangs, Champions, etc... He simply said... "I carry what sells, and lots of people are buying Fenders".
And one Ampeg, and one Orange...
