Fender Rumble Club

Tell us about the bass. Which neck pup did you change to? Are the strings tapes? Did you add/change the thumb rest? Play reggae up by the neck? How does it play? Inquiring minds...
It’s a 91 MIM that I stripped, repainted, and nitro lacquered and relic’ed about 10 years ago. I loaned it out for years and finally got it back recently to start playing. I put a Dimarzio Model J in the neck. I really don’t want to reroute the bridge because I’m not a woodworker, so eventually I want to figure out a hum cancelling neck pup to put in the bridge position, that will complement the Model J, which may not even exist. I put a P bass ash tray cover on it because I like the way the look. I put Thomastik Jazz Flats on it. Plays and sounds really good but I’m still considering going back to rounds to add a little punch. I’m still trying to figure out how my bass marries to the Rumble before I do anything. Thank you for asking.

I love having mine as well, though I’ve really only used it once as an extension cab for my 500 and didn’t strictly speaking need it then, either. :)
Depends who you're trying to impress. The cognoscenti? The tone you get from a simple 200 or 500 combo will impress them. The uninformed masses? Only fake Marshall cabs will do. :rollno:

Yes. The one gig I played running R200c>R112 cab I had exactly the sound I wanted. That was the only venue where it was "needed";) and when I got a chance to sell it-at a slight profit-I let it go to someone who was desperately looking for one.(it hadn't been outta the house for close to a year)
I have 2 gigs coming up-10/14, 10/15-where I'll be using the 200c for the first time in almost a year. The R100(or R40) has sufficed for everything else. Here's the pic I took for you @JakobT one more time.
R112 "in the wild":

EDIT: I should prolly plug in the 200c and see if it still works. Prolly wake up some spiders or something.[it is Florida ya know]
UPDATE: Tested works fine-sounds gooder than I remembered

I bought a set of La Bella DTFs for my new G&L, but decided to leave the factory-installed La Bella rounds in it so I have on bass with rounds. All the others are DTFs.

You did a nice job with that bass. Glad it found its way home in such good condition!

So I went to GC and purchased myself a used Stage 800 for $649! So far I'm loving what I hear but haven't had too much time to play around with it yet. It's pretty wild the amount of sound this thing puts out. Connected it to my phone and WiFi. Will be gigging it this weekend.

As a fellow Stage 800 user, you're going to love the endless possibilities that it can provide!! Good luck at your gig and make sure you check out the rumble stage and studio group as well! Lots of great discussions on using that amp to it's fullest potential.

I'm looking forward to diving into it! I've been looking to reduce the amount of pieces of gear I bring to gigs as I'm getting older, more lazy, and impatient. LOL.

I will give a full report on my impressions after the gig. Hopefully I'll have time to program some custom presets before then.

Hey, I've got a Fender Rumble 40- can I join this club???

Yo, Rumblers! It's two-fer Tuesday!! @jwilson67 you are now member #1542, and @Bighouse you are now member #1543, in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome! Put those numbers in your TalkBass Signatures for safe keeping. Then make yourselves at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

wilson, your bass modeling Rumble Stage has a special Rumble LT25, Studio & Stage sub-thread specifically for bass modeling discussions, please. So, let's keep this main Club thread clear for plain non-modeling Rumble stuff, OK? There's also lotsa good Stage & Studio stuff on your Wiki page to browse through, especially the TONE APP Support section for remote controlling your Stage.

So, j and Big, how's about telling us a bit about yourselves, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You're both gonna fit in just fine 'cause we have all kinds here. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!

Hey everyone, I’ve got a question about input gain/clipping/amp safety.

I’m running in this order:
ibanez les Paul copy (guitar not bass)
White heat boost pedal ( both knobs 2oclock)
Stonedeaf pdf 2 ( see photo)
Rumble 800HD/rumble 4x10 cabinet. (See photo. vintage engaged)

I am noticing that red LED starts to flicker yellow with the master volume set at 9 o’clock and will do so with increasing frequency as I increase master volume.

My question is, will running it like this cause any damage to my amp, especially if I turn the volume up any more? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

From what I can tell this is a clipping indicator but I don’t know if turning up more will fry the amp or not.

Thank you!

So Fender refers to the Rumble 500 as utilizing a Class D power amp and the Stage 800 as having a "digital" power module. I though Class D WAS digital. This is just marketing jargon right?
on page 4 of the expanded owners manual you will see it referred to as a class D power amp :)

If I may take a shot at this, it seems to me you may be "overdriving" the clean channel. Not excessively, necessarily but it looks to me like you're using the gain for volume and vice versa. Adding to that, you're further boosting the gain TO the amp with the OD pedals. Add all that up and that may be causing your little "blinker." Maybe start by reversing the function of your GAIN knob and MASTER knob. Turn the GAIN down to 9:00 (or all the way down, for that matter) and use the MASTER as intended as the output volume control. Since you have OD pedals in the chain, the OD channel may be redundant. Or use the OD channel for effect and lose the pedal(s). If, on the other hand, I got this all wrong, I apologize for stepping out of my lane...

Well, finny, I read this description below from the Rumble 800 HD manual that the flashing amber light is, indeed, a "clip" light! Therefore, a little bit of flashing is OK "(normal for uncompressed bass guitar)." But, increased flashing can lead to "protect mode" and a solid amber light, with the amp shutting itself off!! Not necessarily damaging, but certainly a warning of "overuse", if not abuse.

I agree with @trseal's assessment above. ^^^ Turn down the Gain and the pedal(s), if you want to increase the Master volume. Consider using the built-in Overdrive to at least reduce, if not eliminate, a pedal, or two. Thanks, Tim-may!

Definitely what trseal and G-Dog have already said. You are sending too much to the input of your amp. Two easy fixes. Turn down the Gain on the amp; it can be turned all the way down if that's what is required for the signal you are sending to it. The other answer is turn down your effects because they control what you are sending to the input to begin with. In the same situation, I'd do a combination of both. After the input is set correctly, you should be able to turn the Master up to 2:00 easily without damaging anything, except maybe your ears!

Thank you all for your replies! This confirms what I was expecting.

I think I’m using the gain/master knobs backwards. I’m not trying to use any drive from the amp whether that be from the drive channel or from loading too hot a signal in the input channel.

The tone that I want is achieved by running those two pedals together at those settings so it sounds like I need to:

1. Adjust the input gain down and master volume up

2. Keep from running it in the yellow/amber since that’s essentially letting me know the amp is reaching max capacity.

Does that sound right?

Yup. Once you turn the Rumble GAIN down, you may need to readjust your pedals as what you're hearing now is a combination of all of that. Keep in mind the pedals in that chain ARE front-loading the gain going into the amp. Another option would be to put the pedals in the FX Loop. If I understand that correctly, the RETURN is post preamp (?).

Ya the adjustments effected the treble a touch but not too bad. Still though, I’m interested in the results of using the FX loop too so I may try that and see how it fares.

Thank you for that suggestion!
