Fender Rumble Club

Sounds like the v2 distortion/blend control is similar to the boss odb3 bass overdrive, which is actually more like a fuzz/distortion when the gain is turned up past 2 or 3 (1-10 not clock!). I found the only way to get a good classic svt style overdrive was to blend it all to od and start with gain all the way down. Is that how you do it on the v2 as well? I hated that pedal for years until I figured it out, got it when it first came out almost 20 years ago, still rarely use it though, could always dial that tone on my swr350 and acoustic 600 just with gain and eq. It's even easier on the v3. Next experiment if I ever get a chance to, is to see if I can get get enough grit with gain and eq, and use the overdrive for a heavier distortion, now that I dug my fender led footswith out of my broken super 60 head in storage. But the damn drummer quit so now I am not getting the chance to. Not an option at home
Just like learning your EQ/Tone Controls, you have twist some knobs on the Overdrive in order to find the sound you want. I detest the filthy ampeg svt 'grind', so no. I can get a much more pleasing overdriven Marshall tone with the greatest of ease.

OK guys, I'm just spouting for a bit, looking for opinions......I can't ever seem to be satisfied with one amp for too long, always trying different things. I play in a classic rock band, pretty loud, but only once a month or so. I also do some church work. Have been using an Epifani UL310 cab for years, and a Carvin B2000 head. Last year I picked up an Aguilar TH500 head and two DB112 cabs, thought that would be the cat's meow, use one cab for smaller jobs. I know this is heresy.....but I just don't like the Aguilar cabs, but will keep that Aggie head.
Getting to the point, I happened to try a Rumble 500 combo the other day, and was totally impressed, both by sound & weight! Thought I might pick one up to use for both church gigs, and with the bigger band now & then. But then got to thinking that I already have the TH500 head, maybe just pick up a Rumble 210 cab to use with that. I just loved the convenience of all that power & vintage tone in the Rumble 500 combo! Maybe I'll get that as well as an extension cab.....then I can mix & match. :)
A quick question, mainly opinions.....I realize the Rumble 200 would be way more than enough if I'm just going to use it for quieter gigs, but is it a no brainer to go for the 500 combo if money is no object? Right now they are only $100 difference, is there anything about the sound of the 200 with the 15" speaker that is "better" than the 500 with the 2-10"?

I would say you have to demo them both. I do find them to sound a bit different but I liked the 210's better than the 115. I traded in (and up) a v2 rumble 150 with 115 for the 500 combo.

Filthy grind was not the tone I was referring to. Think geddy lee late 70's-82 he used ampeg part of the time back then, and I was always able to dial that in on most ampeg svt and b series heads I had for backline.

But now that you mention Marshall, yeah that's a common studio trick in combination with a bass amp and sometimes a direct through mic preamp blended. I used one of Greg hetson's marshalls for the top end drive, my swr 350 and Goliath III, and direct into my joemeek vc6q preamp, 98 jazz bass. Here are a couple of the songs, the ones the band chose to put on YouTube way after the fact, not the best examples, but better than nothing.

Yeah I can easily get that tone out of the rumble live.

Okay, I'm back from trying out three different Rumble combos. The first was a 500w that sat up on a shelf in a fairly large open space. Since I have a mij Jaguar Deluxe that I'm very fond of, I thought why not check out that Mia Jag deluxe while I'm at it.....let's just say it was hard not to jack the credit card and leave there with both.
The amp did exactly what I hoped and more, beautiful tone with plenty of head room. I was able to get far enough away to tell it no trouble filling a good size room.
I pried myself away form there and paid a visit to another store that didn't have the 500w, though they did have it's 200w brother on the floor stuffed between several other combos in a smaller room, so I plugged a Precision into it and was a bit disappointed, at less than half volume the speaker farted out. I checked all the settings and couldn't find a logical reason for this and the 500w combo had pretty much won me over already, so on to another store.

The next place had the 500w combo, however all of the bass guitars hanging on the wall had extremely low action and high pickups, to the point that they just clanked and rattled. I tried the best one I could find, but it still didn't sound right. No fault of the amp, obviously a technomaniac that merely think's they know how to set up a bass.

None the less, with the advice of the good people on this forum and the findings from my uncanny ability to aggravate retail music stores, I've come to the conclusion that the 500w combo will take the place of my acoustic combo in the near future.

Might have been a damaged speaker, did you take off the grille and check it out?, I can't get my 200 to fart out, the speaker can handle 300w continuous, same as the 115. I've had better luck getting 210's to fart than 15's ha.

But you never know what can happen in a music store, kmart metal drop G kid could have came in and dimed the bass knob while poking a hole in the surround looking for the brown note.

Yeah, I don't blame the amp, who knows what its been through.

Ive been running the bass.11:00, lowmid 1:00, hi mid maxed and treble 10:00. A clear cutting rock sound. It cant match my big rig but, Im finding lots of uses for it and there is alot to be said for being able to make gear work for you no matter what.

If you can afford the 500 you will be happy, if you are the guy with the 210 neo I'm sure they will play nice. It's also not too hard to sell b200's on craigslist, let someone else break their back. An easy $150-200, and maybe try to find a used rumble 200 as a backup, which should also play nice with the neo cab, if you needed a backup, from what I gather they are pretty reliable. I do bring my micro cl head to gigs though, just in case.

One thing about my 200 I have noticed: If it sounds like the speaker is farting out like was mentioned a few posts back, sometimes it is everything around or near the amp that is vibrating. It took me a little while to figure that out. It is just that powerful. The 15 inch speaker moves some air!
That it does! Eminence has a winner there, and fender really got the cabinet tuned just right too. If I had my hands on a 200 head it would b e interesting to do a shootout vs my 1998 swr son of bertha, which is a seriously tight 115 with no lack of lows and mids without sounding boxy or muddy like many other 115s. Bertha does have a superior tweeter and full attenuation control, so it would probably win the slap contest

Yeah, you're probably right. Given the proper environment, the amp probably would sound great. I have noticed my Acoustic B200 sounds much better in a larger room with less around it. In fact, tone wise the Rumble 200 reminded me a bit of my B200, it's just hard to imagine lugging it around after seeing how light the new Rumbles are.

So sad to hear you have taste a Lemon.... BUT my V3 200 combo serve me well with a cheap Squier Cv 60P.

wow.... your EQ setting bring solid " In Your Face" beaten tone.

My setting is:

with 9050L string
Gain 11.00
Bright on
Vintage on
Horn off
(Overdrive 8.00 Level 10.30 )if need
Bass 10.30
Lo-mid 2.30
Hi-Mid 2.00
Treble 1.00
Pbass tone pot 1/4 turn

with 760FL
Gain 11.00
all 3 button off
Horn off
(Overdrive 2.00 Level 8.30 ) if need
Bass 11.00
Lo-mid 2.00
Hi-mid 11.00
Treble 1.30
Pbass tone pot 1/4 turn

Sound present with quite nice lo-mid tone, not too old school ,not too modern.
A little Overdrive add-in just try to create a Tube-Amp-Like sounding.

About farting out like effect without "smell", what i done with my previos V2 75 watts combo, is using a car dampening foil(bitumen kind) ,stick and cover on all joining side and corner inside the cab.

Sorry i dint have a picture to show you.

I just agreed a price on a little practice amp for home use.
A 2nd hand Rumble 15, a v2 I believe. I pick it up in the morning - yay.

Almost too shy to post; getting Rumble envy reading about you guys' amps. :)

Hi all. As expected there was no info sheet included. Before I google around to find the sheet it is probably a good idea to find out what version of a Rumble I have, v1 or v2. It looks like the pics of v2 I've seen with the big FENDER across the front - but it is covered with that "lovely" carpet. The sticker on the back says "Type: PR 497" and "Made in Indonesia". Does that help get me a version no or build year?
