Fender Rumble Club

I had the Rumble 200 and always thought about adding a second 200 rather than just an extension cab. How are you plugging into the lower 200, with a 90 degree cable?

I sold my 200 a couple years ago but recently picked up a 500. I am wondering about doing the same thing with it.

Hey, theos! Any relation to Thanos? uh, ... nevermind. @theos, you are now member #1587 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

Yeah, man, a second R500c would be totes awesome! The shape of the 1/4" end plugs on the instrument cable is not as important as the quality of the cable going from the FX Send of one to the FX Return of the other. ;) And you shouldn't be close enough to any walls to need 90 degree plugs. :smug: But whatever floats your boat is the way to go!

How's about telling us a bit about yourself, theo, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular. You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

I've been playing bass for maybe 13 years. I started playing bass when I got tired of lugging drums around. Currently playing bass for a small time band, Michael Summers and 30 Miles East... red dirt country. I've been with them for a few years. My basses consist of a Fender Cowpoke with mods, G&L LB100 and a Fender Elite Jazz V... amps, Markbass 12" combo with a 12" extension and of course the rumble. The tone I am getting from the rumble might make it my #1.

I wouldn't be at all surprised! ;)

How about sharing a photo, or two, huh? It's not required here, like it is in most TB clubs, but it is encouraged! :D

With the two Rumble 100s I am just going from the effects send of the top one into the effects return of the bottom one. That bypasses the preamp section and controls of the bottom amp, so the top one control everything. The best part is the coupling effect of running two identical speakers close together. I heard and felt that when I fired them both up together for the first time today.

And, theo, you'll be coupling four identical speakers close together! :woot: Let's get ready to ... ... no, wait. ... ... ... some guy's got that phrase copyrighted, or trademarked, or sumpin' ... So, we will just .... ... ...

@don21480, I would recommend the Rumble 40 over the R15 or R25. In the long run you would be better severed. You get a fuller sound and more flexibility. It will play low enough for the smallest practice, yet can be loud enough for anything the current acoustic arrangement would likely do. If not, you still have the DI to fall back on.

As for the OD circuit, the R25 is on and off only. On the R40 has Gain and Level adjustment. Myself at most, I've practiced with it at very low gain levels. The R25 only has the Contour button the scoops the mids. I don't like it, so I never use it. The R40 has the Vintage and Bright buttons, that I do use according to what I'm playing and the tone I want.

The R40 can also be found at very reasonable prices ($150 or less) readily, on the used market.

Also, the 40 has a 10" speaker while the 15/25 has an 8" speaker. I originally bought the 25 but about 6 months later the Rumbles went on sale so I traded up to the 40. It sounds much better than the 25 and has more features. I have used it for practice with a rock/pop trio and I could hear myself without cranking past 1-2 o'clock on the Volume and just a bit of gain. (I still don't fully get why the gain acts different than the one on my tube guitar amp, but I digress. Off to the wiki!)

I've been thinking about getting the 100 in the near future, especially with all this talk of chaining two 100 combos together. <drool>

I'm trying to figure out how to get the used R200c near me. Very reasonably priced. And I'm a big fan of 15s! (Personal preference.)
So was I(the R200c was my first Rumble, 11/2015). Later when I got my R100, it became my 'go to'. Even later, when I played through 2xR100s, I fell in love with that tone. Haven't 'sprung' for a second-yet-but that day will come.

I sometimes daisy chain my 500c to my 200c. Gives me a 490 w, 2*10 + 1*15 stack.
Just a normal instrument cable will do. Go from the master combo effect out into the slave combos effect return. The master controls the whole thing

Friends - I did a search but whoa thats a lot of pages on this thread so a quick question - my band usually works up songs with just 2 acoustic guitars and me on bass. I need a cheap lightweight bass amp for that - we rehearse in a 15x15 room over a garage siting down close to each other. Would the Rumble 15 be enough to cover that? I play a recent version of the Squier Jaguar Bass H. I looked at the 25 but don't need/want the distortion and as I recall 10 extra watts adds very little volume. Thanks!
For what you're doing, an R25 would be good, but if you wanted a larger speaker, the R40 would be the one, although you could drown both of your guitarists out. Then you could start a "Sweet Revenge" thread (joking). I have both an R25 and an R40, and I've used the R25 for acoustic jams and it was indeed plenty o'bass. That was with a jazz bass, too. Single coil alnico passive, so no boost from the pups.

With all this "coupling rumble 100's" talk, I feel obliged to provide some visual aid...

I've 'chained' the 100/200c here at the house for S&G, and once on a gig. But most of the places we play don't allow/require that much 'oomph', so I unplugged the cable and just ran the 100. Since it was on top of the 200c, it put the 100 closer to ear level. While I really like the idea of having 2 R100s, there would likely be very few opportunities to use both.
Oh, well, backup.

Quick question, not sure if this is the correct group though. I just bought an AM Pro II Jazz that I really like. I used the Contour button on my R40 and really loved the compression. Any idea of a very simple compression pedal that would give me similar performance?

By the way, can't say enough good things about the R40. For home, it really is the perfect amp for me.

Kinda a weird question but does the Rumble 40 and 100 have a tonal difference in post? (connecting this with a DI to Interface). I had a 100 and loved it but took up a good amount of space in my small studio for YouTube videos.

No, Astral..., I mean, sono. The preamp is the same for the Rumble 40, 100, 200 & 500. So their XLR Out signals should all be the same at the same settings.

I see you've been considering a Rumble 115, then a Stage 800, over the years here. And that you have an Ampeg 115 Rocket Bass. But, did you ever get a Rumble?

We're still here to help. :)

Oh wow! You have a long memory

I briefly had a Rumble 100 and used it for a YouTube video to demo a Harley Benton but I eventually traded it in towards an Ampeg RB112. I love the lows of the Ampeg but I certainly do miss the crystal clear highs and lows of the Rumble.

Would like to own the Rumble 100 again for versatility (and potentially do an A/B video of the two). Since you’ve answered my question about the post EQ, that’s great news to read as I’d like to keep the signal chain the same from when I previously recorded my review on the Harley Benton bass for an A/B revisit :)
