?? Hmmm, seems you pose a logical circular reference, Timbo. Assuming the recommended standard Primary Send (path from the preamp upstream) to Secondary Return (path to the power amp downstream) for the chaining:
A. The Secondary Send receives no signal from the Secondary Preamp, therefore it has nothing to Send!I'm sure your friend Rube could come up with some more interesting scenarios. These are just the first that came to my mind.
2. Any signal going to the Primary Return is amplified only by the Primary and is not sent anywhere else.
¥. With the daisy chaining using both FX Loops, as recommended for chaining, mono pedals wanted to be in both Master & Slave would need to go to the Input of the Master.
☆. Stereo pedals could receive the Primary Send signal and give one channel ouput to each Primary & Secondary Return!♤. You could make a "dry" & "wet" chained system with the Primary Send to pedalboard input and the pedalboard output to the Secondary Return. This would give you a "dry" Primary tone and a "wet" Secondary tone.
£. OR the pedalboard output could go to the Secondary Input to use the Secondary preamp as another "virtual pedal" for the "wet" Secondary tone.

So... Yes, Tim, you can tie in a pedalboard while daisy chaining combos, but it's complicated.
You described what I called "the recommended standard" chaining here:
And I added the parenthetical definitions to my [now PC corrected] "Primary Send (path from the preamp upstream) to Secondary Return (path to the power amp downstream)" in recognition of the 2 sides of each combo. Both sides of the Primary are usually involved, but only the Return side of the Secondary is usually involved.
You proposed an invalid "circular reference in logic" here:
It is invalid because "A. The Secondary Send [usually gets] no signal from the Secondary Preamp, therefore it has nothing to Send", because the Primary Send to the Secondary Return is usually the only signal to the Secondary. But, then connecting that empty Secondary Send signal, either thru a PB or directly, to the Primary Return bypasses the Primary Input and preamp, which effectively mutes the Primary power amp and speaker with that empty Secondary Send signal. So... No, that particular arrangement won't work very well.
All my paragraphs after #2 just describe ways that, Yes, you can use pedals with chaining! But, paragraph #£ uses non-standard chaining where the Primary Send goes to the Secondary Input to use it's preamp.
That's all. So... you ask a theoretical question invoking Rube Goldberg, you get a complicated answer.

Amen, to the Epi JC being a great bass, Rob! But, yeah, that was over 4 years ago. He actually got a Fender Player Jaguar about a year and a half after that!

Been using my rumble 100 at this really small gig. Doing a really good job. Better than I thought it would !
We did a gig at a condo rec/party hall tonight(Sunday). I used my R100. Coulda used my R40. Next time.

+1 for Auralex GRAMMA v2! I have the middle size because it originally had my 200c sitting on it.
I have been really enjoying my Darkglass Alpha Omega pedal. I use it very minimally, chasing tube warmth rather than full on heavy duty distortion. It's incredibly versatile. I had a SansAmp BDDI v.1 before that and no regrets with the change. I must get around to trying that along with the Rumble inbuilt distortion. I'd like to find a way to use both together
You speak truth. These are two songs that will fill a dance floor. I think both are fun for bass players.

I have the same size Auralex Gramma. My bass amp is always on it in the studio or on stage.
So I had my rumble 500 for 5 months now. Very happy with it. And I just discovered that having both the Bright and Vintage buttons engaged gives me an awesome sound with much more punch than just the clean configuration. Such a versatile little box.

In the "affordable" realm the Hartke LX5500 sounds criminally good in it's price range.
Me three. I just discovered (tried) that combination recently, and it sounds great.

I leave the VINTAGE in on all 3 Rumbles-40/100/200c-at all times(yes, I've tried them with it out/off-nope). I use BRIGHT if I feel the room is kinda boom-y.
