Fender Rumble Club

I've read that the new R800c, with Neo speakers, is a bit brighter than the combos with ceramic ferrite speakers. But I've also read that a lot of Rumblers turn off the high-frequency horn of their ceramic Rumbles, too.

Personally, I've never noticed much difference from the horn with my now 9-year-old R500c. But I also keep my Treble turned fairly low, too. How about the rest of you? Is your Rumble combo too bright, or not?
.
Nope, but 100s got no tweety birds.

So I've been playing a lot more with my Rumbe 800. For me the best part is the vintage button. Reading the frequency chart from the Wiki I see that it rolls off starting at 100mhz and gradually reduces db's from there.

What's interesting is that I tried reproducing that eq profile without the vintage switch - still sounds good (treble has to be almost all the way turned off) but two things of note:

1. Gain profile is not the same. With vintage switch on (all eq at 12 oclock), I am noticeably louder.

2. I compared my eq without vintage by raising gain and matching volume. Sounds similar but the vintage switch just makes everything sound thicker (especially the D and G strings). I read that there is some compression going on with this switch enabled. If there is it definitely is helpful and isnt squishy at all because I already have a compressor enabled in my chain before the amp (Empress at 4:1).

Long story short - I love the vintage switch - great sound. As for contour, kind of cool but so scooped I can't see myself cutting through in a bad situation. As for bright - well it's bright! Not my cup of tea but kind of cool its there as a quick button option.

Lastly, with everything I was working on I had the horn turned of.

So after a few months of it collecting dust, I played my P-bass at a casino gig with my Rumble 800 with 210 extension, the first time I paired the P with the rig. Oh boy, did it sing! It really seems like the Rumble combo was meant to go with the Precision. The last set I played my Ibanez EHB1505 and it just wasn't the same. I've spent most of this afternoon scouting the American Pro II five string to play with. May have to make a decision soon.

No doubt in my mind that the Precision and the Rumble are made for each other. It was ordained in heaven long ago!

You have seen references, I hope, to the wiki page for flat eq on a Rumble? Because setting them all to 12 isn’t flat.

While I suspect the Rumbles were designed and tested for/with Precisions, they work just as beautifully with other basses. Thunderbirds, for example.

Tried something different on tonight's(Saturday)gig. Usual 10/2/2/10 EQ, but noon GAIN, 11:30 VOLUME, BRIGHT on, VINTAGE off. Good for the room we were playing. A little clearer.
Oh. O/D on mute-as usual.
I feel a little clarification is needed: I prefer the sound with VINTAGE engaged, however one of our guitarists says I'm too loud/bass-y(he's always louder than necessary and his bass amp is a MarkBass-ugh!), so I figgered I'd try these settings for S&G. They're "OK"-I guess.

Not too shabby with a 78 Musicmaster and TI Flats either!

Besides sounding good with all my basses, my Rumble Studio 40 and my Rumble 500 combo sound great with all my 6-string guitars! Some very warm, rich tones.

A country singer/guitarist lady friend asked my opinion of a small bass amp to buy for her jam room to attract more bassists, since I missed a few last year for medical reasons. She's really proud of her new Rumble 40 and tells everyone that she can play her guitar thru it, but she hasn't gotten "brave enough" to try it yet!

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself as a new owner of a Fender Stage 800 amp, I bought it 2 month ago on Gear4music with a whopping 10 years warranty. I'm 50 years old and I live in Paris.

I upgraded from a marshall killburn connected via an interface audio to the rumble stage 800, it's a huge difference ! it's such a pleasure to finally really feel the low end strokes on my bass.

I figure how good the covid period was because it gave me the envy to retrieve my old Precision bass that my brother was keeping since I abandoned bass playing 25 years ago.
I'm still a kind of beginner but I improve everyday, because I play a lot, it give me so much pleasure, with all the material you can get nowadays on YouTube, it's really incredible how you can improve faster than before :p
Also my goal is to play in a band, but may be next year. I play a lot of different music styles, the only style I don't really like is metal. The music I prefer to play is Stevie wonder songs, James jamerson bass lines and a lot of reggae bass line from Aston Barrett (the wailers) or Ronald "Ronnie Stepper" MacQueen (Steel pulse)

Right now I'm fully satisfied with the stage 800 amp sound, the size and weight of the amp and all the possibilities it offer.

I must admit, that I didn't play too much with the modelling functions, I tried for few weeks different amps simulations and it's great. I tried also pedals simulations but I must go deeper to understand better how I can use it.

Here is a pict of the amp with my PB : it's a vintage 1973 model with a thin neck, but when I bought it, it was not considered vintage and may be I should regret to have customized it (for the value) with a jazz bass EMG mic, but I don't regret it for the sounds possibilities it offer ! I also changed the Bridge for a more modern one.

Also, in a more funny side , here is a pict of the Footswitch cardboard, that my cat has chosen as the best place to take a nap in the afternoon :D :

Bon jour, mon ami ¡ @ArnaudG, you are now member #1591 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome to TalkBass in generaland to The Club in particular. Please put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

I've enjoyed your discussions in the Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800 Club sub-thread before you even bought your Stage amp. So, you know that's the place to discuss specifics about these bass modeling amps. But, we'd certainly like to see you here often for Rumble general discussions. And "merci boncoup" for telling us a bit about yourself as a reborn advanced beginner bassist. You're already fitting in quite nicely! So, now is the time when we all must ... .... ....

Rumble On!

Bienvenue sur le forum, @ArnaudG ! Je suis un américain qui vit à plein temps à Arcachon. Le cours vidéo de guitare basse que j'ai trouvé le plus utile lorsque j'ai recommencé à jouer après 50 ans (!) était "Beginner to Badass" de BassBuzz. Cela m'a vraiment aidé plus que n'importe lequel des autres cours de formation de basse.

Une chaîne YouTube que j'ai récemment découverte est "Bass Tabs by Jason". C'est une façon amusante de passer du temps en ligne.

My limited experience is that my '75 Precision loves the vintage button engaged and my Ibanez basses love it disengaged. With the Rumble 200 C, that is.
