I had the itch for a Bassman tone myself, but found my Rumble 100 can get me very close with EQ tweaking and, maybe a little help from a compressor and/or OD pedal. In addition, the Bassdude plugin does a great job on the DAW front.
I believe you could get very close to your goal with the 500 you already have and without spending $800. Like you, I am not gigging but, if I was and really wanted a Bassman tone, I would buy a Bassman!
As an aside, try various IRs into your SGT, like the Sunn 2-15s and running the SGT into your 500. I found some interesting tones doing that.
Oh, and on the modeling front, I had a Studio 40 and most of the effects, like the Bassman, did not impress so I sold it. But, as has been said, everyone's ears a different...
I don't have a 500. I am thinking of buying one. That is where my $ would go. Sorry about not being more clear.
I have Logic Pro's Bassman plug-in, among other amps. I also have various others in Guitar Rig. Thanks for the suggestion about Bassdude. Right now it is full price, $149. I will probably wait until Black Friday and get it for $29.
You speak highly of the Rumble 100. I have not been able to get decent tones out of the Rumble 100 when I try them out at GC. The 500, meanwhile, brings it, even at low volumes. Do you think my experience with the 100 might be influenced by the layout of Guitar Center with all the noise and the large room and less than ideal placement? What settings for the 100 work for you? I will try them out the next time I stop by GC. If I can get the 100 to sound like I want then that will save me some cash buying the 100 instead of the 500. Saving cash puts a smile on my face.
I was planning on occasionally using my SGT as a preamp into the 500, if/when I buy a 500. (Or the 100 if I can get what I want out of it). The Sunn 2-15s IR? Where are you purchasing that IR? I love the SGT's software-based IRs. I hesitate to overwrite one because I use all three regularly. I wish I could overwrite the hard-wired IRs instead.
Thanks for your input and tips!
