Hi. Is this how I join the club? ‘Cause I’m a Rumbler, full stop. Granted, I’ve only been playing bass since January ’22, and the Rumble 40 was my first and (until later this week!) only bass amp ever. But I’m totally down for the Rumble series. I love the sound, the simplicity, the light weight, and the classic styling.
In my 18 months as a bassist, I’ve been blessed to play a few gigs, and I’ve always had to rely on borrowed equipment. I love my 40, and it actually works fine (cranked to about 75%, that is) for rehearsals with my rock band(s). But, I’m asking a lot of the little guy, and since I was recently adopted into a band with several gigs already booked, including some outdoor college fraternity/sorority football pregames for a certain SEC powerhouse
meh: I wish, it’s actually the Razorbacks, haha! 
), I decided it was time to bump up. Way up. To the 800 combo. 
Because go big or go home, right?
Actually, I let a few good deals on used 200s and 500s pass me by and was sort of bummed until… lo and behold, I found an 800 combo being listed for $699 on Reverb by a nearby mom and pop music store. I “saved” the listing, and by the next morning, they had sent an offer to sell it for $629! Apparently, Fender sent it to them marked “demo,” but when they opened the box it was seemingly untouched. (Maybe it’s the one from the Fender promotional video! Wouldn’t that be cool? I think that’s the story I’m going to tell myself.
) Obviously, I snatched up that deal like a dog on a bone! I could have driven a couple of hours to test it in person, but because of some other obligations, I decided to have it shipped and just test it at home. I’ve got 30 days, so it’s low risk. Anyway, I’m psyched! And I can’t wait to see the band’s reaction! Wish me luck, and please give me admission to your tribe

Sounds great! Also, for those of you that have the Fender Rumble 800, how does the sound compare to the Fender 800 Stage? Does anyone on here have the 800 (not Stage model) with the 210 Fender cab? I have to be honest, I traded my Stage in for an Ampeg Rocket and cab because the Rumble didn't have the "balls" the Ampeg had. But that was before the 800 Rumble came out. Now I am wondering with the 210 if the Fender has any trouble keep up with a drummer and how does it perform on gigs? Medium to large gigs? Inside/outside? Pros/cons? Thanks in advance! -BillHi. GOOD MOVE! Right place/right time. I can't imagine you'll be anything but blown away by the 800c. I recently upgraded from the 200c to the 800c and could not be more pleased. The Neo 10's are so tight and articulate! I absolutely love the tone. I made a direct side by side (literally) of the 800c and the 500c and at all volume levels the 800c blew the 500 away. Not saying anything negative about the 500 but next to the 800 the 500 sounded boomy (it's not-- the 800c is just that tight).

I use the R210 with the R800c. My 210 started life as an extension for my R200c. I think it improved the overall sound as well as extracting the additional 60w of oomph. Not sure how to get more "balls" short of going full-on Grateful Dead wall of sound but 800w thru 4 10's is capable of delivering an amazing amount of testosterone. I've used the 800 alone indoors on "low power," "dimed" and it sounds amazing. Outdoors, alone with 400w into 2x10's and outdoors stacked with the 210 for a full 800 into 4x10's. Really, if you need more, that's what the "Direct Out" is for. And if you need more, Congrats for playing that arena..!

Here’s the newness:
My 800c arrived today! I’ve only messed with it a little bit so far, but it sounds so rich and can play quietly enough for bedroom practice or quickly get loud enough to shake the room. I think I’m really going to be pleased with it.
Pics show my current arrangement with my 40 stacked on top. There’s also a side-by-side photo to give a better impression of the size difference. You may notice in a couple of the photos that I’ve used some packing foam under the 40’s feet; they don’t clear the 800’s handle, so the 40 wobbles without the support. If that makes sense. Basically, the handle on the 800 stands proud (i.e., stands tall) and the 40 can’t clear it without a boost, which is why I’m using the foam risers. Maybe some little furniture risers would work and look more professional. But, I’m somewhat unlikely to be using the stack when playing live; I mean, the 800 is surely going to be enough. Then again, it looks so bitchin’ stacked up. I’ve got a Boss looper at the end of my pedalboard (which I don’t use live, it just lives there), which makes for a perfect splitter. Anyway, blah, blah, blah…

Oh, btw… I think the overdrive channel might actually be useful on this 800. On my 40, I was unimpressed—as many of us Rumblers have been—and opted to use the Compugilist instead, never the Fender’s onboard OD. But when I use the OD on the 800, it actually sounds pretty good. (It comes with a foot switch; otherwise I never would have messed with it, honestly.)

I use it when I'm playing guitar through it, but I don't use OD for bass, other than using it as a mute switch to kill the sound in between sets or before starting a gig. EDIT: Jaya, if you're not familiar with that little trick, you set the OD control knobs on the amp to zero, roll them completely off; and then when you press the footswitch, no sound comes out of the amp.

I figured I’d try it on the 800. It sounded pretty flat to me. I went on from there to add some more upper mids to the mix.

I am thinking about purchasing this actually with the 210 cab. Any pros/cons? It can be used for small/medium/large/outdoor gigs with no problem? Also, if you use the FOH, when you adjust the volume on the combo does it effect the volume a the FOH? Or, is it separate so you can turn up your amp on stage without impacting FOH volume? Does it 'cut out" at all? Reliable? Anything you can tell me would be appreciated. Thanks! -Bill
Well music is everything to me rock n roll CCR, Sabbath, Stones, Led Zeppelin , and the Best ever KISS original 4. I have always played 6 string guitar with Marshall amps. But was never what I wanted. So fours years ago s after 27 years of marriage I got divorced and when my Marshall amp some how came up missing not sure who would have taken it ( my now X ) I said I’d get a Bass next which I did in April and I small 50 watt Rouge amp my dad gave me. Not Good sounding especially with my Jazz so all I can say is I’m so excited and my wife is the best only took me six months to wear her down. Thanks guys for reading. And like I tell others you here the music but you feel the bass
Turning up the volume on the amp does affect the DI, somewhat. Unless you turn it way up, all at once, it doesn't affect it much. If you have a soundman and he or she isn't asleep, they will be adjusting buttons, knobs, and sliders all night long. The DI works no differently than if your soundman were to put a mic on your cabinet; if you turn it up the soundman will adjust if needed at all. I've had nothing but compliments on the DI send on the Rumble 100 and 200.
