Fender Rumble Club

Hey.. just joined and I have a question that will show you that I have way too much time on my hands:).

I have the rumble 100. Is the main difference in sound between the Rumble 100 and the Rumble 200 the sound of the internal speaker? I’m asking about both amps “as is”, without an external cab hooked up to the Rumble 200. Since the Rumble 200 runs at 140w into the internal speaker and the Rumble 100 is rated at 100w into he internal speaker, that does not look like a significant power difference (IMHO). The larger speaker will definitely affect the apparent level and tone, I’m sure. I don’t have access to a rumble 200 to make the comparison myself but I’d like to know what you folks think.

I had a Rumble 100, and I actually blew the speaker trying to get it loud enough for the band I play in LOL. About a week later I found a Rumble 200 used local for cheap (wanted the 500 but none for sale used cheap).
The Rumble 200 is way louder, a bit deeper sounding but lots more umph. It's almost too much for home practice, I barely turn the master until I can hear it and it just gets too loud from there. The 100 was better at home because I could turn it up and it didn't overpower.
I bought a 115 ext. cab also, which I use with the 200 sometimes but have never really needed, volume wise.
Lots say they need the 500 or more for the power, they must really play with loud bands, we're just a trio with me, a drummer and guitarist, but he has a 4x12 cab and 100 watt power amp and is volume happy, and my 200 combo alone has always been enough.
But hey, heck with the 200, get the new 800C combo, more power and lighter weight !! LOL

Come gather ‘round, you’ve seen them all before. But I am such a Rumble show off, I can’t help myself. Top photo from my late Saturday night gig. Bottom photo was Sunday’s mid afternoon gig in the hot sun. I have two R-115s so I can conveniently switch setups.

Charley, Who built the wood work blue thing on top of your nice cabinet?

Hello Funken, when the whole world was home bound I removed the head from my Yamaha B100 combo and built the box around it. Notice the craftsmanship and attention to detail. (Just kidding!) It was never too pretty to begin with but I painted it

brown, hahahah. @GregT suggested it might at least be less of an eye sore in black. Had no black paint, but the blue was available.
The outdoor performance photo, a Rumble 200c atop an R115.

That is an Excellent Idea!!!!
Unless Fender keeps raising and raising its prices I can still proclaim: for the $price$, portability, and sound the Rumble cabs can’t be beat.

I can't agree more regarding pricing.

I sold my Rumble 200 combo and Rumble 115 cab because I wasn't gigging and didn't want a divorce because they were too loud for our home. The Rumble 115 went to @CharleyJackson and he is putting it to good use.

On the blue head he is using, his choice of paint is getting quite a bit of interest. Maybe we will see more new products with this color in the future :).

I did the same thing to a Lab Series L7 combo. Formerly a 100 watt 4x10 it is now a 200 watt amp top.
Lab Series used the same power Amp with different power supplies for a large amount of their offerings.
The L-11 is the original case with no Tolex and the Champ 25se used to be a 1x12 combo.
The Sunn cabinet is gone as is one of the Lab Cabinets.

When I was still working, a bassist friend asked me if I knew of any Fender Rumbles for sale. "Nah, not interested", I said, "Never looked at them and don't care."
I have never been a true Fender amp guy. I've owned multiple Bassman and Showman amps over the years but they never really did it and were soon sold, usually at a profit.
I preferred Solid State because I never liked the tube breakup kinda sound. Unless it was a Marshall.
Fast forward to an open mic last year and what am I given to play through? A Rumble 100. I had actually ZERO confidence in the amp. The guitarist was blasting through someone's boutique tube amp and I'm stuck with this little amp that I was sure would colipase under my aggression. Nope. Didn't happen. Must be a fluke, I thought. Two weeks later I'm at a different open mic and, lo an behold, another Rumble 100. This time I had enough time fiddle with the controls and come up with a setting I liked. After three weeks straight with this little amp I was hooked. One of my other bassist friends has a Rumble 100, a 200 and a 500, with extension cabinets. He assured me that it would do what I wanted it to. I didn't believe him at the time. Now I do. A couple three months ago I went and bought one. I was excited. My first NEW amp in 20 years. I got it home and it buzzed and sang unhappy songs on every "A" note I played. Back to the music store. They send it to Fender repair, they can't fix it. Another one comes in. It is good. For a while. Then I hear it buzzing and singing on Eb. I figure I'm going to solve this once and for all. I take out the speaker. What do I find? Three of the eight speaker bolts are loose. I go to the hardware store and buy Allen socket screws in 4mm. Allen socket because......wait for it....When you let go of the Allen driver it stays in the cap screw. And It won't twist out and punch holes in your expensive speaker. Ask me how I know this, no don't. I use my drill driver set to a low torque and torque the screws and go around again and retorque at the higher setting. The torque setting is determined by the point where the screw starts to compress the wood then back off a little. Naturally you determine this ahead of time. I also added some quilt poly fill donated by my long suffering wife. A good friend bought a Rumble 100 and his sang on the "A" note. It got the same treatment and now it, and he, is happy.
My story and I'm stickin to it.
