Fender Rumble Club

Question about a Rumble 40. Sorry if this has been asked before!

I usually play using the PHONES out jack, all sounds great. If I plug something into the AUX IN jack to play along with other music, the audio seems to cut down to mono for each source- like my bass comes through one ear of my headphones, the AUX IN source comes through the other

Can anyone say if this is normal behavior? This aux cable that I'm using is suspect... found it balled up in a drawer and it seems finicky. I'm wondering if it would be worth buying a new aux cable to try to fix the above behavior, or if it's working as intended. =/

No, not normal. If you look at the block diagram, the stereo aux in goes thru to the phones as stereo, but is summed into mono for the main speaker.

Is your aux cable a TRS (stereo) cable?

Nope, not normal. Be sure your Aux cable is a stereo TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve):

I hadn't thought to check this, and was sure it was going to be the problem, but I can confirm that the cable I'm using is actually stereo.

I think I'll have time to grab a new cable today. If that doesn't solve it, it could also be an issue with my iPhone DONGLE (anyone else still angry there's no headphone jack?), so I can try replacing that too. Failing that, I might be forced to admit there's an issue with my amp.

Thanks all- at least I know where to start.

Yes on the iphone. Stupid design decision, I suspect in part from desire to make phones thinner.

Glad everyone else is as mad about the iPhone as I am. All tech is encrapifying slowly and surely. It’s a topic I think about a lot. Bummer!

Anyway, to avoid making two trips to the store today, I just replaced both the aux chord and the dongle at the same time. Problem solved!

Proud to be a new member of the rumble club, which sounds very tough, and I look forward to adding it to my signature when I’m back at a computer because that seems like computer-tier work.

Thanks again! Good night!

Bring the band down behind me, boys......... This is going to have to wait until I am at a actual computer again. Trying to post long paragraphs using voice to text is next to impossible!
Hey, Stringy! You've been an infrequent visitor here for some years, but it seems today is your first mention of being a Rumble owner!! Feeling the same pain and anger with my Pixel 6. After 2+ years, all my charging and USB-C to ⅛" cables fall out of the phone jack now.

Same here - my Pixel 4a 5G was a perfect phone. Not too big, and it had a headphone jack. I had it for years and only recently and reluctantly upgraded to the Pixel 6 when the battery started failing (wasn't too long ago when you could easily take out and replace your phone battery...)

Now I have a much larger phone with less features! (But at least it's thinner...? The OtterBox I put on it negates that benefit)

A headphone jack makes it really easy to sample audio from any source on your phone directly into a daw or say, an mpc. If I may don a tinfoil hat for a moment, I wonder if that contributes to the lack of headphone jack thing at all?

...Nah, it really is just that they want to make thinner and lighter phones, and they'd rather fill that space with bigger batteries or more functional components instead of something that less than 5% of people would use nowadays in the era of streaming and wireless headphones. I really don't get the push for thin devices myself. Makes it seem so fragile (hence the OtterBox case lol)

I know this has been discussed before, but having trouble finding the info I'm looking for.

I'll be playing a gig in about 2 weeks in a room that is exceptionally boomy. I find that socks (tube or otherwise) don't fit and stay well in the ports. What other type of fill have people used? BTW, I haven't tried adding any batting or insulation to the cabinet. I believe my Stage has some already, but unsure if more is needed. Thanks in advance.

I just used the same egg crate acoustic foam I used to line the cabinet on my R100. A slightly oversize piece will fit securely in the port and stay put.

I got my first proper bass amplifier a few years back. It is the Fender Rumble 100.

Also a few years back after I brought the Rumble 100 combo, I was searching for more advices on Google and it brought me onto this forum.

I love my Rumble 100 a lot, I love everything about it. I played in a club with it, with DI support and it really sounds good. But back in my studio playing it with my metal band I needed a more powerful amplifier.

I love the 100, I thought of getting another 100 and I like the look of a full stack that would give me 200 watts of power. I read advices on this forum that 200 watts would not be enough for metal, at least 500 watts needed as I read the professionals adviced here. If I get the 200 watts combo I will not get the full stack look, so I just proceed with another 100 watts combo.

I bought another 100 and daisy chain it. Sounded good but I quickly realized 200 watts of power is just enough headroom. I needed to run it at 1 o'clock on the master (gain at 12 o'clock). It is just okay but I feel like I needed more headroom instead.

Months later, I got myself a Rumble 410 cabinet. Waited for another month's pay cheque to get the 800 head.

1000107788.jpg

Instantly I get crazy amount of headroom from the 800 head. I just have to run the master and gain at 9 o'clock and I am really happy.

My next step would be another 410 cabinet for the sake of having the 810 look.

I was reading all the professional advices here without registering an account. I have to give thanks to all of you.

I don't know about others here, but my advice is strictly amateur, free gratis, my (sometimes learned) opinions! If you receive a bill from anyone here for advice, please report it to the TalkBass admins!!! That's not what this place is for. ;) On the other hand, you often only get what you pay for. :roflmao:

I don't have much to add here on a daily basis, even monthly actually. I currently own a Rumble 100 v3 that I really like, formerly had a Rumble 500 that I had great luck with. My present band formation didn't need the bigger 500 so I sold it down the line.

But I do learn things on this forum. I just spent a ton of time reading through alot of posts/threads about lining the Rumble cabinet and blocking the ports. Very interesting and something I had never thought about before I came across the discussion. I think I might try those things to "tighten" up the tone on my Rumble. I have a day off tomorrow and had already planned on setting up/testing out a new subwoofer for our PA. Rain is predicted so it's a good day for some other adventures in sound. @steve_rolfeca specifically had a ton of info that I read through as well. Thanks for the informative posts.

Great info here, a well run forum. Since I learned here what the "flat" settings actually are that is my starting point at every gig. Rock on!
