Fender Rumble Club

Inspired by some of the posts discussing what the "flat" EQ settings are for rumbles, I've been experimenting with turning up the Low Mids to around 10 o'clock (given flat is at 2), where previously I almost always turned low mids all the way off. I'm liking the sound I get out of it with more low mids when I use my Yamaha 5 string - I can get a real bouncy motown sound with the tone knob turned down in passive mode. Haven't tried it while playing with others though because I'm worried about mud, but I'll definitely test out using some more low mids next time I get the opportunity.

Almost 3000 pages about fender rumbles. That's kind of impressive.

I don't have time to read that much unfortunately.

I grabbed a rumble 500 last night cause it was easily the best sounding combo in the store to my ears. Well the , rumble 25w with the 8" drivers was the actual king (that little thing sounds awesome) , but it didn't have enough output.

It does sound a little scooped though.

Have you guys figured out what eq settings are approximately "flat" on these amps?

Basically about 10-2-2-10 (as on a clock) on the bass/low mids/high mids/treble is about flat.

I recommend checking out the Wiki at least. LINK
Thanks.

To everyone in the club.

I picked up a rumble 500 yesterday. My plan was to just use it for a while while I figure out what cab/amp combo I want.

Well it sounds quite nice fir what it is. All I have to do is cut a little low mids due to the room and turn the horn on. Everything else is flat or off.

I'm actually starting to consider keeping the 500.
If i do, I need to address a few things.

I dont like the knobs. Have any of you guys found better liking knobs that work well?

I dont like the silver grilled cloth. I'm thinking back or red, but semi transparent or mesh so I can see the drivers. Any ideas.

The noise. It's a noisy little unit when you start applying volume.
Have any of you "de rattled" a rumble ? Any key places to start to hunt rattles/buzzes?
Rattles are a pet peeve of mine. I want the box making music only. No extra noise.

Whos using an additional 410 or 210 with a rumble 500?

Thoughts?
I use the 500 with the 210 extension. It had plenty of volume before, but now it truly whoops. The low end is so solid. I also really like the look of it. It's like a little mini stack. The small footprint is

I ask because the 500 doesn't have the low end control I want. I am mostly happy with everything else about the sound. I figured adding a cab will get me to the same volume with the drivers doing less work so the bottom end will stay under Control better.

Does the 210 sounds like the the 210s in the 500?

I've been looking for a used Rumble 210 for a little while now.

I bought the 500 combo strictly as a rehearsal amp to stay at the rehearsal space but have since gigged it a couple of times and to my surprise, received many compliments on my tone and presence.

I use a Broughton HP filter with it and it tightened it up nicely.

FYI- My usual rig is a Berg HDN212 and a Mesa D800 head.

Thanks.

Everything you’ve asked about has been addressed by fellow Rumblers. I’ve seen vintage Fender style knobs on the Rumbles; looks great! People plug ports, add insulation to the cabinets, elevate and/or angle the amp, and put them on mats to deal with rattle or some other subjective sound gripe. Some have added stretch fabric of your choice to the grills for some personal flair. They’re flexible and adaptable!

AFA knobs, I use these on all 3 of my Rumbles(40/100/200c). Got 'em on ebay-I think.
1020181039-00.jpg they're smaller diameter than stock; easier to get to with fattish fingers

Definitely check the wiki to see if anything there helps, but this is what I often do:

Search for what you want to find on Google and just add site:talkbass.com to your search

It's not foolproof - you'll still have to sift through irrelevant results, but at least all the results will be from talkbass
