Fender Rumble Club

Invited by G-Dog.
New Stage 800 owner.

Need a GK800RB punch and loudness out of the unit, best preset to try or modify.
Used it last night, tried to modify patch #30, ended up sounding like an overdriven Bksck Widow rig. Log in to Facebook

Woo hoo! @DavidJamesNHBass, you are now member #1806 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Please put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

Specifically, I'd like to direct you to The Droopy_TX Rumble Preset Experience section of your Rumble Wiki page for the link to Rumble Stage and Studio Presets DECODER Files (.XLSX & .PDF) to learn about the stock presets that use the GK800RB amp model (27, 28, 29 , 51, 68, 72, 75, & 84. Not 30). You can even see the detailed settings that go into those presets and consider which ones need tweaking to get what you want!

But, please, if you'd like to discuss this further, we've setup the Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800 sub-thread to this main Club thread to keep the complexity down for our non-modeling Rumblers here. Ok?

Oh, and when I click on your Log in to Facebook link, I only get this error:

So, how about telling us a bit about yourself, Dave, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!

Thx a bunch, G-Dog!
And I had a privacy setting on, now removed.
You'll hear the combo amp get growly, then just outright offensive in latest posts on my page.
BTW, Sadowsky NYC 4-24. so it's not the bass.

Making progress, Davey, but not quite there. I can get to your Facebook page, but can't access your linked content.

I did repro the results on my R40.

Yes, you did, Sharpie! And I've finally gotten a round tuit adding your graphs to the Rumble Frequencies wiki page. Thanks for sharing!

Has anybody tried the "flat" setting on various Rumble models. I think it would be rather interesting to see the effect of the speakers.

Yes, they have, J, but mostly only for their own listening purposes. And many have reported here that they can, indeed, use the difference between the "flat" all 12s and the actual flat 10, 2, 2, 10 (or similar) settings to tune to different venues.

But, no one I know has made any graphs using their speakers. Probably because when you include the speakers into the signal path, then you automatically include all manner of other acoustic variables, as well, such as room dimensions, surfaces, microphone characteristics, etc., making reproducibility and comparisons much more difficult and subjective.

Only SharpCat, to my knowledge, has taken the trouble to reproduce some graphs from his R40 (but without the speaker) for our viewing pleasure. So, now they have been added to the Rumble Frequencies wiki page for easy reference and comparison to the R500c. And, although the R40 doesn't have an FX Loop, like the R500c used for its graphs, the R40 XLR Out gives a reasonably close comparison signal.

It would be great if others graphed their R100, 200 & 800 combos & heads using the same established procedure as the wiki (from the FX Send) and posted their graphs here for comparison!

Any of you guys/gals run two amps stereo ? Not chained but one amp as it's own channel ?

I know it can be done but just curious how you go about it if you do.

When I had two amps I used my aby to do it. Opened up all sorts of possibilities. My favorite way was running one amp dry/clean and the second one with overdrive.

I did this at home but did use them that way in an originals band rehearsal and the band liked it. But that was right before the pandemic so the band fell apart.

Anyhow I'm considering getting two Rumble 40 amps and taking advantage of stereo effects. Might get a Boss GTB-1 for fun. Would still get the added volume that chaining two amps would allow but more tonal options.

I have a Jack Cassidy that was modified by Henry Kaiser to add two Fred Hammond Dark Stars. It has two sets of controls and output jacks, one for the original Electar pickup and one for the Dark Stars. At a bass player get together last summer, we plugged it into two amps and cabs. It did sound great. Given the two completely different pickup sounds, the advantage is you can do anything you want to the output.

Then the "all 12s" settings for the signature 7ender tone would be at 2, 10, 10, 2. 😐
It was just a suggestion for those who find it necessary to know what is "flat" EQ. Personally I don't really care what setting is flat as I'd never use it that way anyhow. I don't need any amp to start out flat. I just adjust the controls for the room and the gig to dial in the tone I want.

While most amps/cabs do have a somewhat "baked in" tone, I've never subscribed to the idea that one is stuck with that tone anyway. That's what tone controls are for.

I've run my Vox Lil' Night Trains with matching homemade Alnico Blue cabs. I ran them with a stereo delay and a stereo reverb, with great, noticeable effect. (The "Ping-Pong" delay, with the cabs on opposite sides of the room, will make you dizzy! 😵‍💫) Those are brighter guitar amps, which help separate the origin of the sound. Mid and treble tones are much more directional and easier for the ear to distinguish direction. Bass frequencies can still be done stereo, but will be slightly less directional. The harmonic frequencies will still provide separation, but the lower frequencies are more non-directional. With the LNTs a couple feet was enough to get a noticeable separation of the sides. I would think to get good stereo effect with the bass amps, you would need a few more feet of separation.

I do think it will work just fine, you will just more distance between the sound sources.

If we have all or most of the Rumbles here in Austin, I might be able to get us some time in an anechoic chamber with test gear. Might.
