Fender Rumble Club

It works.

Note tough that You need a relatively high level signal. (preamped) There are some only tone shaping preamps that designed to go into an instrument input and give only ~instrument levels.

No worries tough, there is an almost entirely flat setting for the rumble EQ: Fender Rumble 500 (& 40) Frequencies

For most combos You have to control volume on the preamp itself. (master volume won't work, as it is before the efx send, so the poweramp is always on full power after efx return)

If Your rear looks like You got pre/post switch on the DI out (new design, maybe all 800 combos have that?), Your Master Volume would still work:View attachment 7292910
Thank you… yes mine does have the pre/post di option.

New amp day!

I have a Two Notes Opus Modeling unit that I run into an R100c FX Return (I get plenty of gain that way, but it may depend on the preamp) and it sounds great.

I haven't tried running it into the Instrument Input yet, but since I get sufficient SPL for anything that doesn't require a PA.
My grammar was impacted by my lack of quality sleep, but hopefully you get the gist!?!

Wo hoo, maple! @mapleglo, you are now member #1865 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping, then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

Which model did you end up with, and why, glo-ey? Nosy Curious Rumblers wanna know. 🤥

So, how about telling us a bit about yourself, mape? Such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular. You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!

Congrats!

800, 500, or 200?

Awesome looking Tele-bass, BTW!
It's a 500. And thanks! The build thread is here.

As above, the 500. A few comments previously convinced me that's the model for me. Been playing bass since 1969, I'm getting old, stepped back a bit, especially since my tendonitis started acting up. Lately though, that's just not working for me. I can power through the pain, bought a couple of short scale basses (an SX and an Ibanez) and I wanted a combo amp to ease loading in and out. So here I am.

First things first, doggy. @mdogs, you are now member #1864 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome! Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

dogs, can you check the EQ of your iPad audio and try lowering it, too, maybe?

So, how about telling us a bit about yourself, m, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You're bound to fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!
So, my iPad had bass boost on, I turned it off and there may have been a small difference, but not enough to make any real difference.

Anyone using their Rumble combo with an external preamp?

(Sending the external preamp signal right into the effects return and bypassing the internal preamp)

I have been giving thought to trying this, and since the rumble is so light it would make an ideal power/speaker option for a preamp pedal, provided it sounds good.

Any experience?

(I have the 800 combo, analog version)
I use this into the fx return of my Rumble 800 combo. On the 800, master volume works as it is supposed to (in my opinion).

So it’s been a while since I actually played through an amp at a gig. I am IEM with my tribute band of 13 years, but still own a lot of amps and cabs.

Which leads me to this. I used my Rumble 500c atop of my Rumble 112, for an annual Cook County forest preserve picnic that my good friend puts on every year.

I ran a boss bass compressor through a HPF, out to a SushiBox finally. V1, into the Rumbles input. No controls on the preamp were used. Just gain at about 3.5 and volume at 6.5.

I loved it. Even though I’ve owned the combo for 5 years and the 112 for 3 years, I’ve only used this rig in my music room at low volume.

Now I’m rethinking maybe pulling this rig out every now and again and leaving the IEM at home. Not a bad load in/out.

Thanks for the update, Fr..Enemy! At first I thought I might need to slap a Club number on ya. But a quick check of the Rumble Club Membership List shows you at #1247 and it HAS just been a long time since we saw you here. Then, a search of The Club pages shows that I failed to remind you to put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Shame in me. 🫣

That's a beauteous stack, alright, and no doubt a real rocker. I hope you do put it to good use more often. 😁

Thanks G-Dog, glad to see you’re keeping this club up to date. We appreciate your dedication.

Woohoo! Most two-cab Rumble v3 setups are easy loads. I bet that’s a killer combination.

That 112 is worth its weight in gold. Fender stopped making them more than 3 years ago. Did you buy it used, or did you find a new one somewhere?
I actually found it on Craigslist and offered a straight up trade for a Dark glass Hyper Luminal compressor. Great compressor BTW, but I also own a Becos Stella that lives on my main gig board.

The Rumble 112 is fantastic, it sounds good and I can carry the 500c and the 112, one in each hand at the same time.

While the amp is the Bassman I just finished, I decided to reorientate the R210 cab, so it matches the R115. I rotated it so the head doesn't overhang the sides of the 210. I can operate the Bassman easier at this height, instead of nearly in my face, it is at armpit height to the top of the head. It also helps I don't have to lift it as far and the stack is more stable.

Looks loud! Have your neighbors heard it yet? :bassist:

It's decent for "only" 50 watts tube. It's louder than my SS 125 watt 115 combo, but only close to my Rumble 200 head. Tonally, it definitely has that tube thing going for it.

As I've said before, on the Bass Instrument Channel with the deep switch on, you can tell where Fender got the "Vintage" button's sound from. Crank it on that channel and turn down you instrument's volume down for a super rich, thick bass tone.

The Normal Channel with bass and through bass cabs, you get a more modern sound and more gain. Not quite to the level of my Ashdown CTM30.

I had a '60's Blackface Bassman when I was in High School with a custom built cabinet with a pair of JBL D140-F and it could keep up with a heavy hitting drummer and two guitarists - of course those JBL's were pretty efficient!

Well, yesterday, I decided to plug my Opus into the Instrument Input on my R100c - HOLY MOLY!!!
Just running a Showman modeled Preamp and a 6L6 modeled Power Amp and no cab sim - J-Juice!
Man, it sounded great!

The settings on the R100c were just me spitballing what I thought would sound good with a balanced setting on the Opus - I was right!
