I disagree with RMS being a calculated number. It can be very precisely measured.theese numbers say nothing, cause RMS is a derivated/aggregated/calculated number, and power consumption could mean anything from average to peak.![]()

Our group-playing 60s/70s R&R/Country-hasn't had FOH since 2015(IIRC). We provide(d)* our own PA and were our own soundmen. My 200c got to the point of being overkill for most of our gigs, so I use(d)* the 100. It's been plenty at the volumes we were asked to play.I disagree with RMS being a calculated number. As for power consumption, my point exactly. It could be "program power", it could be at RMS, it could be instantaneous peak consumption.
TC Electronic quotes "power consumption at 1/8 max power".
800 watt, class D BH800? 200 W.
550 watt, class D BH550? 200 W.
500 watt, class D BH500? 65 W.

No, nothing but a Class D amp can be described as one...My point was that something can be described as a class D amplifier, but in reality be something completely different — class AB in this case, I presume. But it was just a quick remark, no need to get worked up about it.
As for RMS, it was derived as part of original research concerning AC already centuries ago, but since then, it's well understood and it can be measured. In fact, in absence of any other qualifier, when describing AC voltage, AC current and/or AC power, you talk about RMS. Not momentary, not peak, but RMS.
I'm not dissing the r100. It's a well engineered amp that does a heckuva lot at it's price point and is very portable to boot. It just doesn't quite fit with my needs. I'd like to see fender do an upgrade as they've already done it with another amp in the line and I think the value for money would be good compared to other amps. You're looking at $1.5k for something like that from other manufacturers which is a bit out of my price range considering I have stuff now that works.Fender had that exact cab. Not anymore

RMS is a calculated number. You cannot directly measure it! (AC vs DC resistive current...) Please see wikipedia quotation above!
You can measure AC currents then calculate an RMS "value". Most of the time it's measured over time (because AC is nothing but constant in nature), then aggregated:
"So, the RMS value, IRMS, of the function I(t) is the constant current that yields the same power dissipation as the time-averaged power dissipation of the current I(t)."

In my electric engineering labs, we used analog AC ammeters/voltmeters and they still measured RMS current/voltage by means of having a very small (or a very great) value resistor over which current/voltage was being measured, ergo, RMS value.
This didn't involve measuring peak, let alone momentary, values and calculating RMS values. Sure, you could do that with an oscilloscope, but if the measured function was not a pure sine and we needed the RMS value for the lab report, we would still turn to the ammeter/voltmeter because it would be impossible to calculate RMS from just the oscilloscope reading.
What about the Rumble 800 head (400W into 8 ohms) and a suitable clean transparent neo 1x12 cab?I'm not dissing the r100. You're right, but they're typically in an integrated circuit because they operate on high frequencies and it would add an unnecessary extra layer of difficulty to PCB design for no gain. please note that playing a bass (or any music) is nothing like a pure sinewave...
You can "tivially" (in digital energy meters there is a whole processing unit for it) measure DC decoupled RMS (AC part only) or consumed power over time (like Your energy meter in the house), but that is an aggregate and it is Wh(energy), not Watt(power), which is an aggregate over time, so won't represent peaks at all.

Right. Transistors are transistors, whether discrete or "integrated" into an IC. Some people think ICs are somehow a different kind if componentClass AB amps also come as ICs. Nothing special about that.
