Fender Rumble Club

Made 4 replacement grill frames for my v3 500c. Only had time to cover one tonight. I have several different grill cloths (and enough other materials for 8 more full replacement grills :hyper:). Frames are replicas of the oem complete with matching velcro, pull strap and logo holder. This is pretty fun. I should probably get back to practice...

You are a man after my own heart. These grill frames are easy-peasy to fabricate. I'm planning a tie-dye -- one pattern to span across 2 cabs. Because I am preparing to move, my work-space is in complete disarray at the time... plus my girlfriend would disown me if she caught me working on a project instead of cleaning, tossing, or packing.

Ha! Great idea. I've thought about that for the inevitable extension cab. Here's what I did last summer on my v3 200c....

Dueling Banjos you've given me a few ideas for fabricating metal grills for my 200c,500c,115 cab for places(bars, local dives and some not exactly upscale venues, not sure if I''ll do the 40c.
GREAT IDEA BANJOS!
COOL! That's a great idea. I'd like to see what type of metal patterns you find. So far, everything I've found is either too flimsy or the holes were too small. I really like the metal grill that came on the Rumble 150. Let me know what you find!

I am following up your covering idea from earlier--I am painting the band logo on a t-shirt to be used under black light. Should be interesting. I need to have it done for Saturday night's concert. Again--thanks for sharing!

That could be pretty cool if it works out. A picture with it in action Saturday would be sweet!

Yes--I am trying 2 different versions--one on a white T which lights up great with blacklight---thus, the name should stand out in black contrast.

I am also trying some glow in the dark paints for a second version with colors. Will let you know the results. The blacklight version I hope to have ready for Saturday.

Sure, but only his ears and head and bass and brains can tell him if he likes it or not. Same thing with strings, amps, cabs, basses, cars, girls, boys, burgers, pies. It's the way of the world.
I like oranges, but i don't like Orange amps.
Obviously, yes, but this is TALKbass, and if we can't talk about how gear actually sounds, make comparisons, etc, then what?

I wil say, I have seen a few folks describe the Rumble 410 as having a "deep" sound... well, the GKNEO410 may be described as deep, too, but to me that cab is woefully dark and dull sounding... some may find that ideal, but if a Rumble 410 sounds like that, I'll pass.

Everything can be subjective, but that shouldn't stop us from talking, questioning, etc. I appreciate the enthusiasm of the fan club here, just perplexed by the apparent scarcity of descriptions/comparisons of the Rumble 410 cab.

Will do-I saw the pics of your grill frame.I believe if I duplicate your frame and add a x member for flimsiness and logo attachment pc somehow, gotta check with my local fab guy and check out that grill on the rumble 150 also. I realize your frame is a replica,I just never thought about it until you posted thanks again.

I test drove the Rumble 410 and compared it to a couple others. I found that it completely outclassed other cabinets in its price echelon (410XL, B410, CX410). It was only when compared to the $500-$700 echelon where it started to be outclassed by neo-equipped cabinets. The $700-1000 echelon is where the Bassman 410 and MB104's sit was where you'll clearly be able to A/B the quality difference.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the Rumble 410 is a great cab, and performs really well within its class. It's only when you begin comparing it to $800 cabinets that its shortcomings become apparent.

I ultimately ended up with an R500c + a matching 2x10, as that is what suited my needs.

ok, we're getting warmer ;) so, by "outclassed", "great" and "quality difference" what sort of aspects of performance, tone, etc are you referring to?

It's difficult to put into words, since my "Bass Ear" is pretty immature. I can perceive when something produces more low end. I can perceive when a particular frequency range is missing due to mismatched components, crosstalk, and poor cabinet design. I can hear the difference between front ported and rear ported cabinets. In all comparisons (with cabinets in its echelon), I found the Fender R410 suffered from fewer crosstalk issues, and produced greater low end. The only issue I had was with the quality of the removable front grill.

I did not care for the Acoustic or Hartke. They sounded cheap in a manner that is hard to describe. What's the old expression? "I may not know how to spell diarrhea, but I know when I've got it!"

SCR-DI arrived this morning - here are my initial thoughts w/Active P/J plugged into "Input" on R40. Active/passive "switch" is a real pain, dealing with that tiny jumper clip. There is a noticeable loss of signal/volume when connected but not turned on vs. plugged straight in to the R40*. Hard to tell the difference between the SCR-DI and R40's ODs. I need to give it more time and try it with passive.

Kamak, I know what you're trying to say - thank you. ;)

Cheers,

(Edited to add) *Just confirmed that if I don't want to use it, I can switch the output cable to the "Thru" port.
