Fender Rumble Club

Well I'm afraid I'm going to have to give up my Rumble Club member number #163 because I sold my Rumble 500 head. Picked up a TC BH250 head and it is more of the sound I'm looking for. I have nothing against the Rumble and it is still a great buy. Just a matter of personal taste.

I went the same way, returned my v3 100 combo and bought TC BG250-208 instead. I still have my 500H + 115 cab though.

I am running a Rumble 150 head into a 1-15 (Dayton Audio 8 ohm driver) cabinet (actually an old Fender Bassman Compact Combo that I just use as a cab. I keep thinking about building a 1-10 cabinet with an Eminence 8 ohm that would match the Bassman in size and finish. Would be unusual and cool but then I think that I probably don't want to carry around any more stuff.

Just noticed Sweetwater had a Rumble 500 in stock. So I ordered one. Should be here Saturday. I will check it out with my Bag End 2x12, Fender Pro 115 and get back to you guys. Looking for something as a back up with a little more control than my Orange Terror Bass.

OK fellow Rumblers, I promised an update a few pages back, so here it is. The DI works like a champ. There was a little line noise, so I hit the ground lift and it was all gone. Unfortunately, I was unable to use the P with Roto 88's - too much noise from the pickup. If I touched the bridge it went away, but I can't play a whole show with a finger on the bridge - so I made a little jumper wire with alligator clips and clipped one end to the bridge and one end to my watch band. Got rid of the hum, but made the bass sound like it had a built-in flanger, so I'll deal with it when I have some time. Went with a P with Precision Flats instead - backup is a J with precision flats. A couple of shots from the pit below. Using the V3 100 in the tilt back position, and it sounds incredible. So glad I installed the legs - it really makes a difference. The show opened tonight, so I'll be at it through next Saturday. I really love my Rumble!!!!!

I forgot to mention in my last post how much I love the 'default' sound - all knobs at noon. This is the first amp I've ever owned that I didn't have to boost the bass and low mid to get 'my sound'. In this particular setting, I've had to pull the highs back to around 10:30, but all other tone controls are nooned. The lower frequencies are full, but still tight without being muddy. Gain and volume are at about 9:30 or 10:00. I"m using a Zoom B1X pedal, but only as a tuner and volume pedal - there's no need to doctor the sound from this little monster at all. There are only 7 of us, but it's a huge pit - there's an 8' grand piano in there, and there's still room for probably 30 or so musicians down there. At those settings, it fills up the pit nicely without overpowering it.

Ordered my 500 last night a little after 5:00 p.m. had it in my hand today at 12:00. Got to love Sweetwater. One of the best online retailers IMO.

So I plugged the head in and played it but didn't crank it. I have practice tonight so I'll work it out then. My initial impression is pretty positive. Seems solid, control layout makes sense, EQ acts like you expect it to. I set it as pictured and it sounds really great at moderate volumes through my 2x12. Fan is quiet, there is some hiss but not annoyingly so. Just more noticeable because my Terror Bass is dead quiet. My 2X12 does not have a tweeter though. My P bass sounded like my P bass. Growly and almost naturally overdriven.

I'll play around with it tonight and see what happens.

Pulled the trigger on a Rumble 115 cab and 500 head this afternoon at my nearby GC. After listening to the 200 combo a couple of weeks ago, I liked what I heard, but knew I was going to need more power for larger venues that comes sometimes with PA backup, and sometimes not. Next will be an additional 115 cab if all goes well. Had to order it so no review until next week sometime, but I have coming up a mid-week gig where it can be put to the test. It took selling on C-list and some old-fashioned horse-swappin' to get this pair, but I think I'll find it more than worth it. My tone awaits.

Give me a number, Linnin, please! :bassist:

Good job there iagtrplyr, and welcome to the Fender Rumble Club. You are member #175 :hyper:

 Rumbles Rock! :smug:

Just got my first amp... Rumble 75 "Au Lait". It's a great compliment to my Sterling by MM SB-14. New bass player here so there's nothing for which I can compare, but I love the sound. It's perfect for practice and seems as though it has more than enough for a small venue gig/ jam session. Very happy!

 Rumble On!

SO had a chance to push my Rumble 500 last night. If an amp can hang at one of our rehearsals, it can play pretty much any gig we would play (our band thinks we're The Who and we play stupid loud against my wishes). Connected to my Bag End D12B Playing my P bass with rounds, I ended up having it set flat with bass turned down to about 11:00. Gain at 3:00, Contour on, drive engaged, drive at 8:00, level at 12:00 and master at 1:00. Sounded very good. Didn't break a sweat. The taper on the pots seem very linear. Several micro heads I've owned max out at 12:00 on the master.

Power seems realistically rated. It's been awhile since I've played through a head other than my terror bass. That head is stupid loud and seems to have unlimited headroom so it's hard to compare output. The rumble power seemed on par with the Markbass 500 watt amps.

I really like the size and layout of the Rumble. Not too small not too big. The overdrive if used right puts just a little hair on notes when you dig in. Very nice. Though it can get silly.

The gig bag is nice too. Since this will be my backup/go play at other peoples places amp it was a consideration for me. Has plenty of room for a speaker and power cable. I'm sure someone will take issue with the 1/4" speaker jack and lack of a speakon connector but It doesn't bother me at all. I'd rather have that than the speakon only jacks on my Orange.

For $400 with a case this is a very good deal. I'm satisfied. Compared to other micro's in the price range I think it's easier to use and is just the right size.

I also have come to love the "all knobs at noon" setting on my new (old style) Rumble 150. After experimenting with the EQ quite a bit, I keep coming back to the default setting... I just love the tone there..
