Fender Rumble Club

Gigged my 500c with the 2x10 extension for the first time yesterday. It was an outdoor gig at a country club. It did exactly what I hoped it would do. I could feel the bass rather than just hear it. I had the volume at 9 and was plenty loud. Glad I got it.

I have the exact same rig as you do and I am wondering why I am running my master so high.
I have heard many a testimonial about how loud the 500c is and most are saying that they are not going past the 10 o'clock range on their master volume. To keep up with hot guitars when jamming (no FOH support) I have to run north of 12 on my master volume. Even when practicing at home I can be at 11-12 and not be too loud. I am either very deaf, (quite possible) or, the 500c is not right. I run a Fender American Standard P with the overdrive off and the gain at 10. I actually took it into an authorized Fender repair shop and they felt that it was ok. So my questions are: Did you have PA support? Were you running the overdrive? Does a P without active output require more from the amp to achieve the same level as a bass with active capability? Or, do I quit avaition because I can't hear anymore? Like you I want feel the bass not just hear it. So louder is not primary.

We have no FOH support. I was using my G&L SB-2 which has hotter pickups than the MIA P. I have used my MIA P Select before I had the extension cab and I would run the master at 10-11, gain at 9.
Yesterday, I did not have overdrive on, I did not have contour on. gain at 9, master volume at 9, bass at 1 all other eq at 12. It was plenty loud. After the first song, the guitar turned up to match me. He is running a Marshall half stack.
I normally run my controls pretty much the Classic Tube Bassman Tone in the Fender Rumble Club Tone Pool, except the volume at 2 could hurt people, and that was before I added the 2x10 extension. Yesterday, I didn't have time to get a good sound check on my amp, so I had to wing it until I got a decent sound. I thought something was wrong with my amp, but it turned out my wireless transmitter battery was failing. I wasn't aware how awful that can make your amp sound.

I'm curious, what EQ settings do you usually use?

If I have my 500 combo with all the EQ knobs at noon with no voicing buttons engaged, it will be plenty loud, and more so with the 210 cab. I don't have to go up to noon on the master at all. In fact, the only time I did that was to test the amp to see how loud it would get. It is definitely loud!

Your post is indicative of why I am concerned. It seems that I should be in the ballpark with the rest of the 500c owners. But I seem to be not as loud as you guys. Unfortunately, I don't have a 500c to compare it with. The local stores will not floor them. It may very well be that I just have a hearing loss. I have been around airplanes for 40 years. I run my 500c/210 ext. Bass: 11/Low mid:11/High mid:12/Treble:1 o'clock/Vintage :ON/Contour:OFF/Bright:OFF/Overdrive:OFF/Gain: 9-10/

If I run mine without any pedals with just my passive P I have to turn up a decent amount. There is still power there. With the pedals I am easily too loud so i turn down considerably to compensate.

This makes me feel a little better. No pedals for me.

I just reviewed the tone pool and I don't think that I am too far out of the norm on the settings.
The rig is still great and I don't get beyond 1 on the master anyway.
I was just a little bugged that I might have a less than 100% working amp and I wanted to find out what others were thinking. Being subjective in nature, it is hard to nail down. Thanks everybody for the imput.

So you still haven't figured out he's yanking your chain? I find it quite amusing.

I'm the same way. I didn't buy any of my basses to hang on the wall. The only recent exception was a pool party at our lead's house last Saturday. It was a jam with multiple musicians and there was a margarita machine involved. The Squier got the nod for that outing.

Get an American made Fender Dimension instead! It's the 'ray taken to whole new level.

@ ubernator - any chance we could get a pic of your rumble 200c and 112 "stack". Thanks, would love to see how it looks together!

Drop tuned chain yanking, old news.

Wall hanging bass, well I played the snot out of the geddy years ago, I don't have a wall to hang it on yet, it is cased in storage. For me it is a rush thing and a collector thing, since mine is the original limited edition, but now that they are MIM, more reason to protect the orig. And the necks might not be up for the abuse like my usa reinforced necks. Otherwise I am not a wall hanger type.

I posted rumble stack way back, but here it is again

Did you try a different bass and see if it was any louder with same settings? Have you checked your pickup height and make sure it isn't too low? Just some ideas.
