I've got a dep gig with an 8-piece band happening at the end of the month. Had a practice with them last night just for an advance run-through.
I took just the 500 head and 112 cab, '74 Ricky 4001 strung with Fender flats.
This set-up really nailed it. The band loved my tone (drummer even commented how much better it was to their regular guy which surprised me). I think he's a Fender Jazz player - a more than fine bass, which must mean he's in need of a bit of Rumble to improve things!
It was, according to them, the power and clarity of my tone which they loved, and what differed from the normal bass player. Getting a compliment is really nice, even better when it backs up what we write here in the club. My old Ricky is an amazing bass for sure, but the Rumbles really set it off - I can confirm this, as I have played other 4001's through other set-ups, and they never get the growl and power I get through my big F rig.
Wait until the gig and get the 115 cab underneath it....!
