Fender Rumble Club

Yes, unless he breaks the circuit by plugging something into the FX RETURN of the first amp in the chain -- the Rumble.

It's all right here:

Here's what the Bassman 500 manual has to say about this:

On the Rumble series, PREAMP OUT is labeled FX SEND and POWER AMP IN is labeled FX RETURN.

The Rumble's FX SEND works very much like the XLR OUT with the exception that the XLR runs through the cabinet simulator.
Thanks for the informative posts.

Scott:

Thanks for the info. It took me a while to wrap my brain around the fact that the Rumble 200/500's effects loop was a "Balanced TRS" connection. I just didn't expect it. However, the block diagram does show TRS effects loop jacks. I also now understand your point about the "dummy plug" inserted in the return. While not technically necessary even without a speaker load, I do see the advantages to preventing voltage moving past the effects send. The only caveat to this would be if you needed to keep the Line Out, Aux In, or Phones circuits open. For example, to send the Line Out to the FOH.

Thank you.

Rev.:

I keep forgetting you are interested in the head units. I keep assuming you're talking about the combos because that is where most of our goofy Rumble hacking happens. Of course you're right; no need to use a dummy plug if you have no speakers.

Right, combo's need the dummy plug to remove the speaker from the equation, heads do not need the dummy plug but it won't hurt anything if you do use it.

Next question, "Will the effects send of the 200/500 accept TS plugs for running into a return on another amp (Orange TB1000) that is only TS"?

Thanks

Hey, don't mean to interrupt but I'm debating between the bassman 500 and rumble 500 head for live use, I use a few preamp pedals (VT bass and GT2 for now) and I was wondering if the rumble would get the job done (through an old ampeg 215 with newer speakers) just as well as the bassman. 300 bucks of a price difference means a bit to me, too. The venues around here are pretty small and rely on the stage sound, so having something that honestly sounds great is worth it, opposed to just brute power to shake the stage.

Sure will! Rumble 500 combos are plenty enough to do that all by themselves. With 2x15's at 4 ohms the Rumble 200 head would be plenty, and the 500 much more than enough. Same front end and same tone. Take your pick. I do fine in any local bar with a Rumble 200 combo which is 140 watts into the internal 8 ohm 15" driver, and no need for a PA.

To add to Linnin's reply, I gig with a 500 combo with a 2x10 extension. I've played venues of all sizes and outdoors with it with no problem. I was using just the combo with no volume issue at all. I add the extension to move more air and get physical thump you feel with bass. With 2x15, that won't be an issue. With the extension cab, I'm typically running master volume at about 9 or 10.

Just want to Say I'm happy to have found Talk Bass. The knowledge and experience shared freely in this fender rumble club is invaluable. Just letting you guys know how much yall are appreciated. Sometimes it's over my head. But it's described in such a way that even one of my intellect can understand.

Agreed!
I too have mined a wealth of info from this Thread (Linin and Gravedigger are the standouts).
Of course, I have you all to thank for the burning desire to get a 15" Extension cab for my 500c but why quibble!??

Thanks so much @Roger Ammons! We do strive to be all inclusive, and to share our combined knowledge generously. It's a hallmark of our club. We lift up and enable. Never put down and trample. Everyone is welcome here.

I have been a Rumble 200 combo owner for about a year and a half. I subscribed to this thread about a year ago and I check in every now and again to see what's going on with my fellow Rumblers.
What I haven't done for reasons that can only be called cataclysmic, is asked to join the club. May I have a number and absolution please?
Thank you for your kind indulgence.

I'm sure @Linnin will gladly grant you a number. The absolution requires an act of contrition.

So, where's the Rumble 800?

Oh, yeah. It's a Bassman 800!

Fender Bassman 800 Hybrid 800W Bass Amp Head

But, it's all Fender, so it's all good!!!

I bought a Bassman 500 Hybrid with this year's income tax refund and for my humble purposes I am 100% completely satisfied with it. If I turn it up past "3" on the MASTER dial, everything in my living room rattles and shakes. And that's with my passive basses plugged into the -6dB INPUT 2! The amp is a tone monster and I can get tones past the limits of tastefulness at each end of the very broad tone palette. I particularly like how you can set each channel VOLUME separately so once you find settings on each channel you like, you can have them play at the same volume or have one louder than the other, your choice. For in-home practice, I set the VOLUMEs to make the final output volume equal. This has been a love affair that's lasted over 2 months and shows no signs of abating.

I pump the Bassman through an all-Rumble lineup of cabinets. When I get a few $$ ahead, I'm getting a 2nd Rumble 115 and this, I'm quite certain, will quench my GAS amplifier thirst for, I'm guessing, the rest of my life.

When I go out to just play with friends, I take one of the Rumble combos [usually the Rumble 40] because it is absolutely enough for the job and it is just so easy to schlep around and it sounds so good.
