Fender Rumble Club

Hey guys just joined after reading through this huge thread.
I'm considering joining the club. I need an amp for apartment practice, occasional apartment jams and every once in a while gigs in coffee houses or small bars (PA is usually available). The dream would be to put together a small funk group like Vulfpeck, i.e. with drums but not loud.

I think the 100 is perfect for me, new from Thomann for 320 Euros. However for 420 Euros I can buy a floor 200 from a local shop. Much cheaper then the 550 retail price.
I'm ready to pull the trigger on the 200 but I'm concerned it'll be too loud for my apartment, where I'll use it 99% of the time. What say you? Thanks in advance for the advice.

I'd go for the 200 if it is great shape. There is a volume knob for a reason! And these sound great at low volumes just as much as higher volume too. And I'm from the camp of I'd rather have and not need it than need it and not have it. And there is a headphone jack if you want to not disturb anyone.

It looks to be in great shape, a couple of marks only. I can't play it because it's in another city, I'm going to buy it online. Waiting for them to email me with details on its condition.
Two years warranty and only has a couple of scuffs.
Finger hovering over the Buy button :)

Agree with @munkeyfish  Plus the Eminence 15" woofer in the Rumble 200 is truly special. :bassist:

I'd go with the 200 as well. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. And you can always turn it down if it's too loud.

Welcome to the club @Gilligan8. You do indeed have a built in compressor, and it is far superior to every other brands built in. You need rack mount studio gear to get better. Search out the various and sundry 'Rumble Talks'.
Fender Rumble Talk - Delta-Comp Limiter

Where in the chain is the compressor? I'm looking at the schematic and all I see are a bunch of TL074 Op Amps... nothing that you can't put in a cheap stomp box.

PS: Do I get a number? ;)

In the block diagram, look for the rectangle that says "power amplifier clip detection". If you follow the angled arrow to the left and up, you will find a triangle marked "delta-comp limiter". That's it.

I think I see how it could be being fed. There is a line coming off the speaker out that ties back into the main board. It's going to a circuit LM13700, again, we are talking about a less than a dollar run of the mill IC opamp. Patent pending and better than most seems to be a stretch.

I'm still very happy with the amp... for the purpose I was looking for it was pretty much a perfect fit.

I have used the Rumble 200 combo to practice in my townhome which is like an apartment but with way better than average sound insulation between units. Lately I've been using a Bassman 500 hybrid head on top of a Rumble 115 cabinet -- so like a more powerful Rumble 200 combo. The main reason I'm using the Bassman head for practice despite it being massive overkill is so I can become knowledgeable and comfortable with the wide range of tone options. I could easily wreck havoc in my block with the Rumble 200 and have neighbors banging on my door, but I just turn it down and thump away. I like to practice at 1:00 am and no complaints yet. Anything over about 1/4 volume and I'm rattling plates in the cupboard, rattling windows, etc. So don't worry about being too loud unless you have no self control and want to keep it cranked to 11.

I ended up with a lot of Rumbles (mainly because I'm a poor tax planner and had mad money this year) but if I could only have one, the Rumble 200 would be it.

Cuba is getting slammed right now. Any Rumble Club members in the path of Hurricane Matthew? @Steadfast is in peril of serious flooding in Savannah, Georgia.

I may be. St.Augustine, Just south of Jacksonville, just north of Daytona. We are on alert with evac passes to return. Schools and work may be shut down Thursday and Friday. All depends on Mathew. Thursday Night show canceled.

The Rumble 100 is significantly smaller & lighter than the 200, which is pretty important to me. The 200 is the exact same size and just barely lighter than the 500, so the 200 seems much less appealing to me than the 100 or 500 (unless the 15" speaker is preferred over 2 x 10"). I'm still awaiting a chance to go demo the range.

That's what I thought too, however the 500 is way out of my budget, I'm only considering the 200 over the 100 because I found a deal.

The 200 and 500 aren't large or heavy at all, really. I have the 500 and even it is fine for apartment playing if you use the volume knob on the bass in conjunction with the volume knob on the amp.

I agree with everyone that says to get the 200 over the 100. The 200 can get you by in most situations. With the 100, you will definitely be wanting more if you start playing with other people.

Edit -- I just figured out that you all are talking about the 200 and 100 combos... Still, I think I'd go with the 200 combo. It will not be running at the full 200w without an extension cab, but the 15" speaker vs the 12" speaker in the 100 is a big difference. For the little extra that you would spend on the 200, you would get a lot more versatile amp.
