Fender Rumble Club

So I traded my ibanez sr500 for the Gothic Thunderbird and $100, which is about what I have into my recent peavey acquisitions ($59 milestone II $40 foundation), one bass into 3 basses! My p bass and Warwick FNA are going back into storage. Too many basses on the boat, too much risk. I am keeping #1 jazz bass out, the 2 peaves and the Thunderbird and OLP stingray (blue leaning on amp) are tuned to drop C for the system of a down tribute.

The guys showed up late so it was too hectic to get the whole stage setup shot. It was my first show with these guys, and it was booked on a weeks notice, so I figured there wouldn't be many people there. The venue put it on their page and Facebook, we put it on Facebook. 10pm and we are just about to go on. The whole room fills to capacity of orange county's finest system of a down fans. The energy was amazing, it was a great experience.

Rumble wise, I felt the tbird was a bit nasally at practice, so I used the contour. I probably won't do that again though, I need my mids. The soundguy said the di worked great and I didn't even need to go past 10 o'clock (though the gain was dimed to maximize the overdrive). The 200/112 stack handles the drop c with horsepower to spare.

Unfortunately the drummers friend didn't know which way to point a gopro, but he noticed and told him to turn it around. Ironically that file still won't open. And there isn't a file for the majority of the show anyway. Either the gopro failed or the genius turned it off while filming. So until an audience member posts something, we got notingk! So no proof of the awesome experience, yet.

Aside from the 98 jazz, I will be using my "cheap" basses for a while. I have a feeling I am going to get ripped off again, and I want the expensive basses safe in storage. Also, I really like the cheap ones, they are not lemons, and I know how to set them up.

Wish I had video to share. The singers wife was too short to get anything in the SRO room.

Can't wait till the next time

Picked up a used Rumble 500 combo a few weeks back after deciding I needed to lose some more rig weight. Thought I'd have to sacrifice tone/volume etc. Almost the opposite. I loved how it sounded at the store, and when I finally got it home but yesterday at rehearsal (full two guitar rawk band), the leader of the band stopped a song midway stating he was thrown off by this cool bass lick he'd never really heard until now (it's a 2 year old song but...hey, I said thank you all the same). The dudes were impressed by the tone, presence and "bass" of this beast.
Today we played an outdoor stage and it played like a dream. I play a Fender P with flatwounds and up until today I used a compressor but I didn't even use that today. The sound guy approved as he plugged direct into the back, I turned the gain to 1pm and the rest of the controls were at noon. No tone shaping pushed in. horn on, tone knob wide open on the bass and it sounded awesome. And a few bass players in the audience got GAS (well it was a chili cook off so a lot people had gas). Anyway another satisfied Rumble customer.

A couple questions...If I run into the fx return, bypassing the Rumble's preamp, can I still turn the horn on and off? What happens to the DI?

In doing this, whatever pedal/preamp I have plugged into the return now serves as the volume control, correct? Is there any impedence weirdness, or can I use it like a true slave?

Have any of you guys any experience with this?

Rumble 200c/112 stack, xlr out to FOH, boss bf-2b flanger in the loop. Spiders, system of a down.

Soundguy was hitting the sub's hard, and I had contour button on, so my drone low c drowned out the high part at times. Next time, no contour, I usually like my mids not scooped out. Hopefully more crowd vids surface

Horn switch has no effect on the di, it will effect the sound of the cab regardless of which end the input comes from. For instance you could use it as a powered full range cab for a keyboard rig, output the mixer to the effects return, bypass the rumble preamp, the tweeter switch has same effect.

Great post @78Stingray! If you search up some of the Rumble Talks you can read all about the internal Delta-Comp Limiter compression circuit plus the Overdrive and Vintage voicing both have their own compression circuit that mimics the natural compression of vacuum tubes.

Yes, the XLR out works a treat direct into the mixing board. It's noise free and quiet enough for recording in the studio. Sounds as good or better than many multi-hundred dollar specialty mics. It also has it's own magic mojo cabinet simulation circuitry. The only people that complain about it are the ones that have never used it.

Welcome to the Fender Rumble Club!

New to the party as I got my Rumble 410 cabinet last week.

Curious -- overdrive vs overdrive, would anyone compare the Rumble 500 vs Bassman 500 head for me?
Welcome to the Fender Rumble Club @Magnus Thorne. The overdrives are more similar than not. The Bassman having natural tube compression and drive. The Rumble overdrive having it's own compression circuitry that mimics tubes. You'll have to A/B for yourself. The Bassman 500 costing twice as much as the Rumble 500.

re: drinking heavily... I did set a beer on my amp last night without thinking. Turned around and looked in horror at the potential disaster I'd set up and snatched it off my Rumble very carefully. Drinking heavily is fine in the right place - just not on top of a Rumble! And yes, I DID put the cover back on it when done this time!
I have been known to say unkind words to people who put any liquid on my amp.

That's good to know, but when doing this, what signal comes out of the DI?
