Fender Rumble Club

Practicing last night....I keep messing with the tone pools...but I keep coming back to everything at noon. Gain at 9. Vintage on. Overdrive on at 7...level noon. Bongo bass flat. Both humbuckers on. Glorious.

I find that with the overdrive slightly on--chords and harmonics sing!

Your overdrive settings are a bit more than "slightly on". I haven't tried that much, but it sounds interesting. I do know I like everything at noon. Gain depends on the bass. I need much more for my Fender P than my G&L SB-2T.

I like to have the overdrive on, and I really like the "Vintage Superbassman" tone, but I roll off the drive to 7 or 8 o'clock myself. I think with 9 or 10 o'clock, I'm driving it a bit too hard for a base tone. It does sound good to stack a pedal or two on top of it from there though.

For me, I don't like or use distorted or heavy OD type bass tones, so the OD is not something i will likely use. I probably would use it if I could lightly blend in the OD for adding a bit of hair or grit. However, even with my passive P bass, and the gain and drive both being turned down, it's still too much for my tastes. That being said, still love my Rumble rig and the GK is taking a back seat:)

Do get to be in the Rumble Club if your rig isn't 100% Rumble? Maybe sacrilege but I have a hartke head into the rumble v3 cab, but I do love my fender cab.

My rig is Sansamp VT Deluxe --> Hartke LH500 --> Fender Rumble v3 410

I play in a three piece poppy punk and grungy rock band and just need a no thrills good rock sound that can be felt at any gig. If the venue is big enough I go straight to PA, and the Rumble handles everything else.

welcome Rumbler #698. Any piece of Rumble gear, old or new, is all you need.
Hang out here for a while and we will probably see your Hartke head in the classifieds. ;) Post a pic and Rumble On!

Welcome to the club, John!
What do you like about going into the Sansamp first? What elements of it do you use?

So the Fender Cab is relatively new. First I had just a PA, then a Bass head, and now the head and cab. The Sansamp was best for the PA as a full Amp Emulator. The Bass head into the PA speaker, the sansamp actually didn't improve the sound either going in first or through the effects loop, so I stopped using it for a while.

With the head and cab, the Sansamp once again sounds really good, and I have it on all the time now. I haven't experimented going through the effects loop with this setup. I did try bypassing the Hartke pre entirely and just run direct in to the effects return. That didn't sound as warm and tube like to me and I switched back to pedal direct to amp input.

I will try the effects loop and let you know. In general I keep the Hartke settings flat (2-10-2) and use the VT for EQ and Drive. I keep the character setting 12 or below which is closest to the SVT and Fat Tube Styles in the manual. High Character and Drive can be really grating, and High Charac low drive is not really a good rock style for me.

I have the Deluxe with 6 presets so I always have one of the presets with my standard sound, but increased level to act as a boost.

I'm in a three piece so I really want a Ramones, Green Day solid continuous eighth note rock bass and I definitely get this with the VT pedal on the Hartke and Rumble rig. Without the pedal it doesn't sound as rockish. We have grungier stuff and the VT Deluxe 6 presets help me switch the sound up to give greater contrast between parts of the song.

Thanks so much for the thorough reply, John.
Having a pre-amp/DI is a great thing as it gives you loads of flexibility in different situations with or without amps/cabs.

As you point out, there are loads of things one can do with one.

Do update us after more experimentation.

RUMBLE ON!

Relegated to practice and rehearsal mostly. Good enough for a number?
