Tom Bowlus = total gear hound (in a good way!) and honestly, anything he says you can take to the bank; no hyperbole, just honest 'from a players' perspective reviews. He's played through more gear. . .maybe why he started a gear magazine!I'm going to have to look up that review. . .
My initial thought was to get the Rumble 4x10, but the width difference would probably OCD me out.Sorry for the slow reply, Casey. My stack is just two combos piled up with the 40 on top of the 100. Lots of people have paired the 2x10 combo and cab with the 1x15 being another popular choice.
I would want the widths to match. The TB dogma is to match the drivers but I'm not all that dogmatic. So I would test out the 1x12 and the 2x10 cabs or the R200 combo as they all hit the 19" width that would also match typical rack-mount gear. A choice of 3 driver sizes that would fit my aesthetics so it's all about the tone.

That matches my beard.....
Saw that beard in the vids you posted. It's real! What didn't seem as real as hearing Surrender without 10,000 Budokanians losing their collective minds. The Cream cover was tasty too. I noticed a third video; portrait? who does that?!? ...anyway expectations are high for another tune. Nice chops, @Aahzz
Curious as to why no-ones talking about the 'seperate' Rumble heads and cabs. Seems like a nice option to me.
There most certainly have been some that have gone the head & cabs option, just not as many as combos. No reason for you not to talk about them, so feel free.Curious as to why no-ones talking about the 'seperate' Rumble heads and cabs. Seems like a nice option to me.
I can agree. I once had a Bassman' 100 with a twin 15s cab, back in the 70's . It was a piece of crap. it was almost as big as my old SVT cab. (Luckily Peavy came on the scene woth solid qualuty equipment and flooded the market with great stuff at reasonable affordable prices.) I never considered Fender bass amps to be worth being stage worthy after that. My Rumble 500 combo has allowed me to give Fender credit for finally producing hood bass stuff. I'm older niw and can't move heavy equipment in and out of car trucks and vans. My 500 puts out great bass at 350 watts without the need of a second cab..and it's 36lbs! . I "live" of the musical bottom if sound. (play Jazz, R&B, blues, Motown, alternative rock, country, gospel , and more. ) I'm mire than satisfied with its sound, and so are the people I play with. My keyboardist is blessed with perfect pitch, so he knows when the bottom is not there. Hail to the Fender 500 combo for allowing me to be able to stay in the pocket at this point of my lifeIt's a great option, I just think that the combos are so popular because you get the same goodness at a lower price.
Talent is not discernment.UGHHHHHH--I can't believe she couldn't tell where the problem was......... She has talent but ZERO experience.
This is the option I went with....A separate 500 head and 210 cabinet. My thoughts at the time were: 1) I already had a combo as my primary/only rig and didn't want two. 2) The flexibility to add additional and/or different cabinets. Im really happy with the set up, get lots of compliments and it sort of looks coolCurious as to why no-ones talking about the 'seperate' Rumble heads and cabs. Seems like a nice option to me.

Indeed it is. The combos do offer more bang for the buck, though, and the whole package is considerably lighter. But for flexibilty the head/cab combination is hard to beat, and it sounds every bit as good as the combos!Curious as to why no-ones talking about the 'seperate' Rumble heads and cabs. I've thought about trying a different cab; the darker sound annoys me.
the Acme isn't supposed to color sound too much
I've only heard a pair of Acme Low B 110 cabs once being played by a good bass player with a 5-string. I didn't like them. They do need a ton of power to actually hit the 31 Hz low B fundamental. Yes, they most definitely do color the sound darker. The Acme Low B really wants to be pushed
Oh we're out here and more than you'd think, I was also surprised when I kept following.Curious as to why no-ones talking about the 'seperate' Rumble heads and cabs. Seems like a nice option to me.
How's the 2-8s compared to the 112 sound-wise?I have the 2x8 and 112 V2's
