fender standard

i'm a new bass player...lefty. i need to buy my first bass and get a whole bunch of acessories. there is somewhat of a budget issue.

from what i've found, these seem like good deals. any info? suggestions?

i'm open to any advice. such as why this might not be a good guitar to buy, etc.

i chose the fender j bass because i am pretty sure i want a j bass and heard the standard is a good place to start.

Be careful buying from that web site. That is hands down the worst web I have seen. Most of the time the pictures never match the item for sale. As far as the bass....great choice! The Fender Standard series are a great value for the money....and the Fender Mexico plant has been putting out some great instruments lately. I had two standard jazz basses, a fretted and fretless (both purchased from Musiciansfriend.com) and had no issues with either.
You can never go wrong with a Fender Jazz!!

That seems out of date as well. IIRC, Fender's current list price is $200 more than what they show there. Something's incredibly out of date, the price is way low for a new insrument, and the picture is for a right handed fretless. Based on those problems, I wouldn't trust that site.

A quick comment about musiciansbuy.com.

Several years ago, I ordered a Roland V-Bass from them- their price was a couple hundred less than anyone else, I was shocked. A day or two after the order, my CC was charged.

Three weeks later, unit had still not arrived. I was told via email it had shipped and then my emails were ignored. A couple weeks and a couple difficult phone calls after that, it was finally sent to me.

So yes, the product got to me and for the price offered, but the whole process left a bad taste in my mouth. I haven't done business with them since.
