Hope I'm not late to anything!
I was wandering around Guitar Center, wondering what they might have in terms of Bass amps cheaper than 400 dollars (my original plan was to get an acoustic B200H and matching B115 Cabinet). When I peaked over to the used section, I noticed a behemoth just lying there. Curiously, I walked over, talked to a sales associate, and got the basics of what the Studio Bass Amp was.
Noticing that it was ALL TUBE and only 250 dollars, I quickly jumped on that opportunity. Best choice I've made I'll tell you that!
But what strikes me as odd is that I can't find the original price for this thing ANYWHERE. Like, how much it cost in the late 70's-early 80's. I don't plan on selling it anytime soon, but I would like to know how much it cost.
It's been hinted on this site, but not directly given (someone mentioning early that the Roland 1x15 was cheaper, I believe 300 dollars cheaper). I want to keep this information for later use. I know mine is used, but it doesn't sound it at all! It's got that nice, Fender tone that I've grown accustomed to with the right sound for any bass (in my opinion).

I'm working on snagging one. It's currently in the choir loft of a church, and hasn't been functional for at least 10 years. I've been hinting to the guy who runs the church that I'd be willing to buy them a new amp and trade it for the SB, but he doesn't seem too interested. Yet.

Good luck, and keep at it. If he doesn't know what he's got, you could probably replace it with a Peavey TKO or something you can get for 100$ or less, and he'd be happy, especially since the SB isn't working. You may want to see why it's not working though. If the power tubes are missing, you 've got some $$$ to spend to replace those 6 tubes, especially if you want to go with NOS tubes, and you probably should...

I noticed this Studio Bass group earlier.... I'd like in if possible. I actually just picked mine up last night (Friday Nov. 18, 2011). I have the combo version. It has had all the tubes upgraded a few years back, Sylvannia I believe - Matched Set, but has sat idle. No Mods of any sort but has had the EV 15 replaced with a new upgrade. Owned by a well known local amp tech. I was there looking at & picking up a Fender Junior Blues Limited Edition guitar amp (full mod's) for my son... was told about the Studio Bass.. he pulled it out. Kinda' fell in love with that thing... aesthetics & full tube sound. Needs a cleaning, some surface rust on the hardware, a few tolex snags, but thats about it... excited about now owning one! Lengthy.. I apologize, thanks for listening.

I was told that it is a 1976. Can't find a thing on a 1976, just 1977 and up ?

It is pretty darn clean! It did have the Blackface originally, was a bit tattered, so the previous owner swapped the cloth out. I am guessing it to actually be a 1977, transformer markings indicate 1976. But if I am correct... they came out in 1977?

it's either an '80 or an '81. Haven't dated it for sure yet...

I tried to get the date of manufacture from Fender... this is their response "we are unable to accurately date any products manufactured prior to 1994". But they did email me a .pdf of the Owners Manual & Schematic. Don't know if you have these? If you need, let me know....

Thx John! Any ideas as to why it's a 180W schematic? I've seen others that are labelled 200, as the amp is advertised...and printed at the output jack.

Thanks for posting this Johnk, I just emailed gjesse a .pdf of what Fender sent me for a schematic. That reflects "200W Studio Bass" It's a very grainy scan, don't know if I can post .pdf here, it is also rotated 90deg CCW.

Any input though as to (2) different versions of schematics 180w - 200w?____

the 200 and 180 watt ones are the exact same amps, they just rated them with a different amout of distortion.

Hey guys, looks like I'll be joining the club in a few days and I was wondering if anyone knows which Fender head cabinets the studio head fits into with little to no modification. I also wanted to share that there's a super twin combo listed on GC's site for $799 if anybody's interested. Thanks in advance.

The '75-'76 Super Twin amp chassis will fit in a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. The cab is 26-1/8" wide with a 24-1/2" chassis cut-out. If the Studio Bass is the same size, it should fit. You can always contact Mojotone, though. I've had excellent customer service experiences with them.
