Anyone got views on the "output tubes matching" feature on this beast?
I ran my keyboard bass thru mine last night. It's a darn punchy amp. Looking forward to running mine thru my EV TL 15"

So lemme get this straight......
The Fender tone-stack is passive & "flat" is 2, 10, 2 (bass, mid, treble) am I right?
At the few gigs I've used it, 1st - couldn't get to amp easily & struggled all night getting a good tone. I think I had eq @ 5's on all 3(b,m & t) - so, that'd make sense as it'd be scooped in the mids & I've always disliked that.
Next gig, I set it 2, 10, 2 & had a much better night I was tempted to turn that bass control up to 5, but I left it.
Last gig I set it 2,10,2 again & added some eq with the ACTIVE eq.
Gave me a lotta scope & got it going great.
Am I heading in the right direction
For my Studio Bass' lovin' & affection....??
Still wondering re that power tubes matching control

i just set the tone controls at what sounds best to me. for me it can vary alot depending on what cab i'm uisng it with.

as far as the output tubes matching goes, it's just an output tube 'balance' control to balance the bias output of each triplet of output tubes with each other. once it has warmed up for at least20-30 minutes, you just set it where it has the least hum at idle.

Yeah, of course that's the best option. I just haven't had time-at gigs-to experiment yet.
Got a real crunchy overdrive outta it when cranking the pre volume too!

Wow! An original combo too.
Congrats. I'm REALLY digging my "head" Studio Bass now.
Took me a few goes to dial it in, but played it with my really hot '74 Fender Telecaster Bass last night at a uni gig & DAMN it sounded great. I'd forgotten how good power tube od sounds

Last night's gig (Thurs) :-
Fender Studio Bass > NV412 with Alleva-Copollo EUT5 & '74 Fender Telecaster Bass(not in pic-sorry about cruddy pic)

Damn this pumped!! Sounded great thru the sealed 412 & in this big room. Only about 280 ppl, but the room is high & with no right angle corners. You can see the angle of wall & ceiling at right.
Here's the 'stage' area.

Guitar uses old early '70's Maton 30w amp & 212"
Keys uses Nerd & '70's H&H 100w amp into a huge 115 cab that was a monitor at a TV studio in the '60's
Here's the view outside-& pretty much from stage area too.

Studio bass amp was plenty loud & I was running it a about 7 master & 4 pre. I used the passive tone mostly- 3 treble,10 mids, 5 bass, but towards end of night, I switched in active eq for a li'l low mid boost-180hz-boosted to about 1&1/2
Just a nice amount of crunch on each note, but if I played softly it'd pretty much clean up.
Gonna use same rig tonite. Will report.

DANG!!!! Was using the STUDIO BASS head with an 8ohm Berg AE112 last night at rehearsal & it performed nicely.

THEN....
towards the end of the night I noticed it sounded a bit dull... I switched it off a few mins later as we were finishing, & then the Guitard decided to run thru another song.

I switched the amp back on, standby for about 15 seconds(as it was still warm & had only been off for about 2 mins) then into operate mode.
It made a small noise- like a hum or something (I actually don't remember the noise convincingly -damnitt) - & blew its fuse & went dead.
Now I didn't have any 3 amp fuses with me, -still don't -elec stores only sell gadgets now :-/ - But I'll grab a pack today.

STILL...... fuse blowing & the symptoms I describe.????

Anyone???

the hum that you descibe sounds like you may have a bad output tube which in turn could blow a fuse.

So the 6 x 6L6GC tubes are in two sets of THREE is that correct? Ain't in matching pairs??

yep. two trios of a sextet, but you can match pairs in them. it has an output tube matching pot on the back of themp. once it has warmed up (10-20 minutes), you adjust it for the least amount of hum with no signal at idle.

How'd U mean match pairs in 'em, when there's 3 each side?? Forgive me, I'm a dolt in these matters...

I mean, I've had tube amps my whole life, & understand the matched pairs, what to do, when to take it to my tech etc..
but I'd like to be sure here...

Say the tubes are :-

V1----V3 ------
-----V2----V4---V5---V6

WOW, I'm growing more & more fond of this beastie. The tone last night(B4 problemo) was superb. Last weekend, I really got the "hang" of it & the active tone - & passive Fender tone controls - & had it SINGING.
As John says- really nice growl. Great bottom end response too.
gee I wanna get this running for this weekends couple of gigs!

you can match the outer two, the middle two and the inner two, or the best way is to match each trio, and then use the output balance control to match their current.

How do I safely check tubes?
Amp hummed then fail-blew fuse.
Can I take all power tubes out then turn amp on, see if fuse's ok?
Then put in one,2 or 3 tubes & then see if it doesn't blow etc??
Today's the 1st day I'll have some time to do this, been busy all week

Bump!!! How do I SAFELY check this?
Can I take out ALL the power tubes, then turn amp on (with new fuse in), then, if fuse doesn't blow,turn it off, put in a pair of power tubes, see if THEY function ok-fuse stays ok-, then do the same with next pair until I've tried all 3 pairs?
