Fender Sub-lime bass fuzz

Me too. I feel that Oliveri's work with them was very simple and rudimentary, while Reeder brought the band into a whole new level.
Oh, I always liked Nick even though he's a walking train wreck. I can see where you'd say he was "rudimentary", but he was a good foil to Josh H. I think QOTSA went downhill quickly after he left.
Nick could certainly play, just look at green machine, but yeah, his lines were usually quite simple and chuggy, where as scott just brought them into a whole new sonic level, the way the guitars and bass intertwine and bounce off each other on stuff like gardenia and 100 degrees
in fact I introduced a friend of mine to kyuss recently, (who's a classicaly trained pianist) and he said he thought sky valley was musically perfect (he's obsessed with the chord progression at the end of demon cleaner)

Ahhhh, derail de-schmail. Any Kyuss conversation is good conversation. I always thought "And The Circus Leaves Town" was sort of overlooked.
Circus isn't a bad album, spaceship landing is 14 minutes of audio pornography, but nothing they (or anyone else actually) ever recorded could eclipse sky valley. It just works perfectly as an album
Agreed. Brant Bjork was apparently a pain, but quite the drummer. He certainly shines on that record. I saw that tour, but he had left the band by then.
I love both "Green Machine" and "Demon Cleaner". Prolly my 2 fav Kyuss songs. Don't make me choose between them...... I can't

Workin' on it dude. Getting my mini recorder from the rehearsal space tonight. Hopefully have something up by the weekend, unless somebody wants to keep an eye on a rambunctious 2 year old for me.
Not to bring this back to Kyuss, but let's not forget Oliveri wrote Mondo Generator, which is one of their unsung classics.
To be honest, the only thing that would make me favor Sky Valley over Blues would be the production, but if you've got a system that can get it loud enough, there's nothing quite like Blues For The Red Sun.
Not to mention it actually has the songs broken up into tracks

No worries man. Just make sure your anticipation is for the pedal & not my hack playing.....or else you're be sorely disappointed!
I played one of these at the Fender booth at Bass Player LIVE 2009. I really liked it!!! I destroyed it!
OK, these are the first clips I've ever done for TalkBass and I'm totally embarrassed by them. But people want to hear this pedal, so I'm doing my best to make it sound awful.
Firstly, I played this pedal in a band setting for the first time last night. Definitely no problem with low end loss. It's real fat & thick & has a nice full texture. This is going to come out wrong, but at times when I stepped on it it didn't sound like I turned anything on...if that makes sense. No cutting buzzsaw distortion, just fat fuzz. I messed with it some to try & get that, but realized that's really where my problem with distortion & fuzz have come from in the past. I so want to cut through & be heard that I end up completely killing my low end. I think the fat, unobtrusive fuzz is the better route, so that's what I'm gonna stick with for now.
I'm going to keep messing with the Sub-lime, as my sordid history with dirt boxes just makes my band mates roll their eyes at this point.
Also keep in mind that the XO frequency sweep allows you to apply the fuzz anywhere between the 30 - 300hz range. I have only chosen two spots for these clips.
As for these clips...128K MP3s recorded on a cheap Zoom H2 at a much lower volume than I would have liked. Excuses I know, but the wife works out of the house & the kid is napping. (Daddy doesn't get much "me" time at the house these days.)
USA P Bass with Roto 66s & the tone at about 75% through a Ampeg B100R. Amp knobs mostly around noon 'cept bass at 2 o'clock & treble & master volume around 11 o'clock. H2 on a shoebox about two feet from the amp.

Gain (light up color knob) starting at 12:30...and I turn it with my toe at the :42 sec mark & the 1:55 mark, eventually rolling it back to noon-ish.
Played pickstyle until about 1:12 then fingers.

Now to clarify: I am a hack bass player, but I'm not AS BAD as these clips indicate (well, maybe I am.) This pedal is way cooler than I make it sound. I just wanted to kinda play around with fuzz friendly styles...Geezer Butler type noodling (though nowhere near his skill), sustained higher register notes, chords, etc. There is absolutely no theme or pattern to the licks...just random crap. All of you really talented bassists can snicker privately amongst yourselves after hearing this.
Also, this thing really sings at higher volumes, I really wish I could have recorded it louder but maybe another time.....

I like the bass playing & tones in clip 2
Certainly has a beefy low end, these clips reveal its smoother fuzzy side to me,
would love to hear it in some more insane examples
but I totally understand the two year old and wife scenario ....
