Fender tone stack sound.

Within certain bounds.

There's no universe where my first guitar amp, which was a 10watt Crate, would sound "great".
I'm playing on a crate bx80 right now. It's not aweful, but It's not nice either.
There is a funky distortion in the amp I can't get rid of (always sounds over driven, even at low volume) and sort of a fluffy, furry, fuzz sound.
It's impossible to get a clean sound from it.

It's always surprising to me how sensitive people get about subjective opinions about art.
Art? You were talking about sound. Different things and considering you were dumping on it while kinda dumping on those that use it as their sound, they were justified in the pushback to your over generalization and even a pro tried to correct you on your misguided opinion, not all of the implementations of a Fender styled tone stack sounds the same. Seems like you are just a little sensitive to the pushback.

Yes there are other iterations of the Fender tone stack, but I was talking about the most popular one that was present in the amp I used so that's what I was referring to. If that's not obvious enough from the context, I'm at a loss.

You don't think preferences for a mid scoop or mid bump fall under the category of "art"? Interesting, do say more.

Funny thing, is that pro (I assume you are talking about Aged Horse), made a much stronger statement than me in his statement when he said "the original Fender tonestack isn't the greatest for bass guitar, it's highly voiced for electric guitar." Conversely, my post is littered with personal qualifiers to make it clear to those with reading comprehension that I'm talking about myself.

If you like your gear it's fine, no need to seek validation from anonymous accounts.

He’s not anonymous… he’s actually a well known gear engineer. Also, where was I seeking “validation”? He’s right and he knows way more about amps and tone than you ever will bud. He was trying to save you from embarrassment but hey, I’ll let you cook and just ignore you.

The anonymous account I was talking about was me, and your response shows little engagement with what I said.

My Crate guitar amp had distortion that can be best described as "a really angry bee".

Oddly enough, I ended up getting a Crate 200w guitar head off eBay years later. Practiced with one band and the thing was so dang loud through a 4x12 and a 4x10 that you couldn't tell there was a bassist.
