FIFA World Cup 2014

The conspiracy was in getting them through to this stage.
Pathetic home refereeing decisions and their name got them here...Germany simply took all that out of the equation and showed them for what they are, a cynical, limited, uncreative, spent force, bearing little resemblance to the Brazil of our imaginations and memories.
What they did to the game against CR was infamy and as far as I'm concerned, I'm delighted they were trashed.

Yep, I agree. I never thought Brazil would win, and as soon as they came up against a top European side, they looked like a second rate under-15 side, especially their defending (including their midfield). I din't post my semi-final predictions (I was working in Sydney), but i would have picked Germany to win 3-1. Tomorrow, I reckon Holland with win 2-1. All the Punters have been raving about an all South American final, and now they're all making excuses (no Niemar, no Thiago Silva) - bollocks. One defender and one forward shouldn't make that much difference, not a 6 goal difference anyway. Germany made Brazil look like a bunch of hacks.

I think the Holland-Argentina match will be close, but I reckon the Argentinians will go down as well: 2-1 to Holland. All this nonsense about how European sides can't win in South America is just that - nonsense.

I said it before the WC began - Germany will win (and I'll win some decent money if they do). They just have too much class all over the field, and they have no reliance on any one or two players.

Nice to see Kloser get the record as well.

going to Origin III tonight Mark?

That was extremely humiliating for Brazil. I was expecting a german victory but not with that margin... I mean, probably it's the worst brazilian national team ever but losing 7-1 in a world cup game (and semifinals) is too much.

My prediction for ARG-NED 1-2

My prediction is the same, 2-1 to Holland. I agree with you - Brazil have been very lucky, and they're certainly not a great team by any means. Oscar has been crap the whole tournament, as well as the rest of their mid-field (except for Hulk). Apart from that, they don't have a decent striker in squad - quite amazing for Brazil. I just don't think Brazil is the world Football force it used to be, and it showed last night when they went up against a top class team. If it wasn't for their home advantage, they'd have gone out a lot earlier in the competition. After they went down 1-0, they just lost the plot entirely. I can't remember any WC match where a team just completely lost all discipline like that. 4 goals in 6 minutes (or something like that). Quite amazing in a WC Semi-final.

Well done to Germany though - I think they deserve to win after a performance like that, especially considering players like Schueller, Podolski, Mertesacker and Gotze didn't even start. Now that's depth in a squad, and it's why I think they'll win this World Cup.

Congrats to the Germans, I still can´t believe my eyes. I do not want to add to the obvious jokes Brazil. I preferred to think of this:

In 1950, Edson saw his father crying. He asked her why he was crying and his dad replied, "Brazil lost the World Cup."
The boy was worried and thought a response. When he returned he said, "Do not cry Daddy, I'm going to win the world for you." He only said that to confort his dad, but eight years later summoned to the selection and won the title. The world knew him as Pelé.
Sleep well Brazil. I am sure that somewhere in there is a very worried child that saw his father cry.

an ad to discourage gambling went horribly wrong in my region ;)

Nice one Mark, enjoy the game and go the Maroons.

I think the talk that says how bad Brazil was takes away from just how good Germany was
Their counter-offense wasn't just multi-pronged, it appeared to involve 9 different players.

The Germans moved around the field well. As soon as their keeper had the ball, it was straight onto the offensive and, as you say, there were a load of Germany players pushing the attack. However, when they lost possession, they were all well on the defence.

Brazil on the other hand didn't attack as a team and they certainly didn't defend as one either, very lethargic and players didn't seem interested in getting into the game.

One Paddy Power punter correctly predicted 7-1 obliteration in Brazil-Germany semi

Some genius punters called the unbelievable Brazil takedown in Belo Horizonte tonight, with one canny bettor in particular putting a fiver stake on Germany to win 7-1 – at odds of 500/1.

The UK punter walked away with £3,500 profit from the speculative bet.

A few other lucky winners went for a cheeky flutter on a 5-0 score by half time, netting themselves some healthy four-figure sums after just 45 minutes of this historic semi-final.

A Paddy Power spokesperson said, “It was nice that that the rest of the Brazil team decided to miss the match in tribute to Link Removed and Silva – but on reflection they’ll probably realise it kind of backfired.”

Edit - Fairly sure that should be a £2,500 profit.

It was an embarrassment. The interesting thing to watch will be what if any effect it has on Brazilian football in the future. I have to agree with Titus that the Brazilians came in with a bit of an entitled attitude as if the mere sight of the yellow jerseys and blue shorts would cave in the other team. Every team they played chipped away at that false premise and Germany buried it under a pile of goals. I've seen enough teams go through something similar that I am confident that Brazil will figure it out and come back stronger next time. It will need to because Germany has built something that looks like it will be able to sustain a high level of play for a long time. And this World Cup has spotlighted a bunch of other countries that have really upped their game.

I´ve never witnessed something like that before.
IMO, we´ve atended a History class and we´ll narrate it to our grandsons.

I always believed that Germany would win this WC (before starting) and right now is almost a fact.

Congrats to Germany !
