FIFA World Cup 2014

It takes a certain level of arrogance and ignorance to state that the world should refer to the sport as "football". It's like saying "yeah I know there's translations for every word spread out amongst however many languages we have in this world, but the words FOOT and BALL should be universal" lol

In Spanish it's translated to "Futbol". Hell even in Germany it's Fussball (more so with that squiggly B letter I can't enter here). So here's a suggestion........we refer to it in whatever language the world cup champs refer to it for 4 years until we crown a new champ ;) you want "football" to be what we call it worldwide? Ok well do that when a English speaking country wins the world cup. Good luck with that one haha

Is there a new EPL thread yet. I just got tickets to Football at Fenway: LFC - AS Roma at America's most beloved ballpark next Wednesday. Good thing the England national team members will be well rested ;) I'd like to see Gerrard, Sturridge, Sterling, Henderson, et al for a bit. Do the starters get into these preseason friendlies?

The Spanish and the Germans call it their translation of 'football', which is fine .

It's just Americans who know nothing about the game calling it soccer or - even worse, futbol - that is unacceptable .

But it's ok that you don't understand.

I'd argue that Germany *is* an English speaking country. Last time I was there I met but one person who didn't speak English.

Depends. When I saw Stoke vs. Houston most of Stoke's regulars played. When Chelsea played against the MLS All-Stars, some of Chelsea's main players only came on in a sub capacity.

I'll be attending AC Milan vs. Chivas here in Houston next month. Should be a fun match to attend.

One of them is a banker, bloody hell, and an architect.

Who'll Celtic have to play next, do we have to round up a TB 11?
Totally ridiculous and insulting that any professional league champions are treated as second rate citizens to again, satisfy the demands of commercial interests.
I can stretch a point for semi-pro leagues, but to say that one professional league Champion's achievement is of less value than a team finishing 4th in another league, citing the "quality" of the league, which is also largely due to the same commercial interests, is contrary to the spirit of sport as I understand it.

That said, 'mon the Bhoys, get intae them!
