Filters up or down - what's your fav?

Up and Down simultaneously in one pedal.

The MXR BEF is downsweep only.
I like it generally, but don't use it because the lowest tone that closes is a speaker beater.

The BEF sweeps up as the filter opens, but as it closes it comes back down and then you get the THWOMP you're talking about.

I don't get where y'all're getting a sweep up. Ed Freidland does a demo video of this pedal, and he says the same thing I'm saying. Of all the filters I've had, this is the only one that doesn't sweep both directions.

I prefer off but if I do run an envelope filter, I prefer up. Just sounds right to me.

Starting at 6:33 - the "reverse feature" "ow, ow" that "MXR deliberately left...off this pedal," according to Mr. Friedland, is the down sweep.


In this video for the original Mu-Tron III, 0:40 is down sweep, 0:43 is up sweep:


Basically, if you hear "wow", it's up sweep, but if you hear an immediate Chameleon-style "ow", it's down sweep. If the attack is fast on an up-sweep envelope, it can sound similar to a down sweep.
