Finally Found a Surf Green P-Bass

I always wanted one in surf green, but could never find one. This one was said to be a 1989. Is it a re-issue? Pretty sure it is American, not from Japan.

I don't think that was a standard US color in 89.

That's a good looking bass though. That's for sure.

I've seen a couple late '80s AVRI Ps, but I think they were '62s with rosewood boards.

At any rate, great color! My #1 is a surf green Lakland Duck Dunn.

I was thinking that too. I do have an gold guard sitting around, but am hesitant to put it on if that bass did not come with one.

Yes of course but who hasnt replaced a guard on a Fender? Very common mod.

What's the neck plate look like? Letters, numbers? Is that poly or nitro? Need to pull the neck and guard to look for clues.

I think a gold guard would ruin this bass. That thing is a rare beauty.

Funny thing is I think a gold anodized guard would be an improvement. It's a great looking bass anyway.

I'll throw in my vote for the white guard. Surf Green is an awesome color for a PBass and gold anything would ruin it..

Nice bass! If it was MIJ it would probably have something saying that on the back of the neck, up near where it joins the body. Should be a serial number on it somewhere too?

Something like this - this was an '89 MIJ I owned a while back. And it was a '57 RI.

Great classic color. The 'Precision Bass' typeface under the logo is a bit bolder than usual. Other than that, the shape(s) of the body & neck look proper.

Be interesting to hear what the people here with real Fender knowledge would say.

Would love that in a 5'er and Daphne or Sonic Blue.

Supposedly, if there's an EX stamp on the neck pocket it's a custom color
