Finally played a Fender Meteora

The Dimensions were much more like Stingrays than the Meteora which uses the double pickup that Fender has used on basses going back to the Roscoe Beck and original Precision Deluxe.

The Squier Dimension pickup is a standard double-J pickup with a custom cover. I'm not sure about the Fender version. Though the preamp is likely different, because IIRC the Dimension never had a passive mode.

The Dimension HH appears to have the pickups in the same place as the Meteora. It's the single-pickup Dimension H that had the pickup in the Stingray "sweet spot". I think this was part of the problem with the Dimension: it looked like it should have sounded like a Stingray, but it didn't. The Meteora doesn't look like it should sound just like anything else.

I almost bought a Dimension H/H and still regret not getting it. I've learned that nothing sounds just like a Stingray, but for sure that was probably the downfall of the Dimension line. People buy G&L L2k basses or Lakland 55-02's all the time thinking that they'll sound like a J and a P but they just end up sounding like what they are.

The neck was great if you like Jazz necks. The fit and finish was very nice. Fender has been working on making the Player’s series basses something approaching Skyline quality but cheaper (probably because of higher production levels.) The electronics are quiet and the pickups sound great. I did not fiddle with the preamp, but I am pretty sure it is the same as the other active Player’s Series basses.
I am looking at one of those on The-Bay right now. If I can get it cheap I’ll go for it
a right now
