Double Bass Fingering my new blonde double bass

When the OP starts out with:

I play guitar, harmonica and drums. I understand basic theory regarding chords, chord progressions, scales, modes and how they fit with chords and melodies... I can also read music, just not really fast....

this may not be true, but it would help to know where your local area is! you may be able to find a teacher willing to drive to you (i've done it for students). there is really no substitute for taking lessons. even a few just to get started would be way more worthwhile than a video or website.

Agreed.

I only took basic lessons in elementary school.

That made every piece of music I played such a struggle. I was so confused with everything up until about 7th grade when I got a teacher.

The good thing about that was that I was using my ear more than most of the other bassists in our orchestras. I didn't know some of the notes so I just listened to them and played them back. It's still one of the things I'm best at on the upright.
