Fired from band by text....

Texting is not a problem....using texts because you dont have the balls to face someone and be given respect is a problem...

I'm guessing this is cover band that is making "cult of personality" a priority....tells me all I need to know. Can't imagine there's a market for it. Fun to play but I'm continuously baffled by setlist choices (actually I'm not, it's usually the guitarists' faults). You dodged a bullet.

Well if they asked me to learn cult of personality, I would said, "thats barely a song and it sucks, loosely connected jams, with lyrics from a South CA music class, blech." Honestly if a white band put that out only the garage walls would have had to hear it. Not exactly Phil Lynott quality song or bass line.
So "She" was tasteless and crass, call her , not text her and thank her for reliving you from that tripe. Texting is cowardly horsepoopie, passive agressive mean note on your desk, someone did not have the breasts to say in person.

Did not read all the pages here, but would bet SHE made the decision, no one else, and as the world fabulous singer (and as girlfriend of the Rhythm gat who I guarantee will cave in to her every Princess whim) she is, absolutely she's the one who said you had to go. I would not bet her rationale was rational either unless you really could not play the tunes. One tune not perfect at audition is not usually grounds to "fire" anyone.

In the end---be glad you were not in that band.

I fired my drummer via text. These people don’t understand that nobody calls anymore.

I don’t get it. If texting is fine enough for the drummer to cancel practice over and over and for us to talk about the next time we are going to meet and it’s hard enough to even get four people in a room together, and texting is fine enough for the drummer to explain very poorly why he didn’t bother to tell the rest of the band about a show he had agreed to and couldn’t do until we found out from elsewhere that he’d be out of town, then why can I use texting to tell him we are going to look for another drummer?

If anything, it’s far more traumatic for a face to face firing, for people to drive 25 minutes to meet in one place, to be told oh, you’re done.

For what it’s worth, since we fired the drummer by text, we easily replaced the drummer, we’ve gotten better shows than ever, our reputation has improved greatly around town, we’ve even won an award, and honestly, if the drummer was honest with himself, he would see that his life is better, too, because his heart was no longer in the band anyway and we freed him to do his own thing and his new band is doing fine.

Excellent point.

We are dealing with several generations, what passes for normal communication to the younger ones (text, twitter, etc.) would be unacceptable to the older ones here, some are old enough to be grandpa of the younger guys.

In my case I was about 75 minutes drive away so would have been really hacked off if I'd wasted time and gas to find out. He could have at least phone me though but he didn't phone the guitarist either, he emailed, which we both thought was pretty spineless of him.
