Fired without a reason

The guitar player and I have been thinking if we should respond the guy anything, write him an e-mail, call him, tell him "good luck with your career", but finally we decided this guy wasn't even worth a response.

I think that is exactly the right response: No response. He's really not worth the effort. :rollno:

You said it yourself earlier in your post: the guy is not a professional musician. Well, no kidding! I think I could tell that already by the way he responded to your request for more pay - and your more than reasonable offer to negotiate with him.

Based on what you've shared with us, if this guy thinks he'll ever again find another group of pro musicians who will make him sound as good, he's dreaming. Sooner or later he'll figure that out on his own. But it'll probably take a long time. And by that point, it won't matter anymore.

You've conducted yourself very professionally. You have nothing to grieve about. Hold your head high, and move on to something better. You've earned it. :smug:

And I don't know how you were brought up or how the business culture is in your country, but loyalty is definitely an issue for me. When I'm loyal to an artist, meaning I give them priority in my schedule, I also expect loyalty from the artist. That means that if there's a problem with how I do the job, they would let me know. And if they thought there was no solution to the problem, they would also let me know.

Not an unreasonable expectation - at all. No matter the culture or the country. Especially after two years of dedicated effort. The OP was expecting only a reasonable amount of professional courtesy. That really is not too much to ask... :eyebrow:

I am sorry Sir.
All of that sounds great, but in my experience, that is NOT the way it goes in the " REAL" world. If these really are your expectations, you will be sorely disappointed.
OFTEN.

Self-centered, dickish behavior may be very common. That doesn't make it right. And it doesn't make it universal either. There are many professionals who manage to simultaneously have successful careers AND be decent human beings. I refuse to believe that one ought not to ever expect it... :eyebrow:

Thanks for all responses!

When I opened this thread, I said we weren't given a reason for being fired, and at the same time I wrote about the financial situation. Now, two weeks later, I also remember other situations. For example, at the last gig we did with him, people began to shout "we wanna hear the girl sing" and stuff like that. Some came up to the musicians to congratulate the band for a good show. Nothing out of normal, but we all know the ego of singers... Next day we were fired by e-mail.

Maybe I'm all wrong and it was just his wife who got jealous about the female guitar player. Or the bass player being more handsome than her husband ;)
