Fireglo or Walnut Ric 4003, and why?

I really like the walnut, but I'd personally go with a 40003S, just because I prefer the look.
But yeah, a dark board on the walnut would be nice.

I have a Fireglo and a Mapleglo. They're like my kids; it's hard to pick a favorite. If you can play them, that should decide it. If not, I'd go with Fireglo. It's what's under Chris Squires' cream colored Ric and Mike Rutherfords' early Genesis RM1999 Ricenbacker (I'm a Prog fan). The Classics never die. In my experience the Fireglo really catches peoples eyes, more so than the Mapleglo. It's a stunning color. What really matters is, it's a Rickenbacker! It's the TONE! I can't see it much when I'm playing it, anyway.

Fireglo, Mapleglo, and Jetglo are *the* colors for Ricks, to me. There have been a few special-release colors that I really liked, too (say, Turquoise). On the other hand, the new Walnut models look to me like they can't decide if they're trying to be a Rick or some kind of high end/exotic make...the two things just don't seem to go together. That's just my opinion, of course!

This was the only 4003s in the shop. I picked it up, played a bit, and could not put it down. color had no bearing on purchase

The Fireglo is the prettiest Ric ever made. Period, amen.
Anyone who says different is a mindless, knuckle-dragging slug with not taste or appreciation for true beauty.
But, that's just my opinion. YMMV

The satin neck finish is superb. The weight of the Bass is perfect! The tone is there. Simply the best Ric Bass I ever had!

I like them both, but there is an order of preference. Fireglo first, then the Walnut. I am also a prog fan and love the three classic colors too. I think the Walnut is they most extreme deviation from the classic Ric lineup but one that they have done very well. AND, the ones I hear recordings of sound fantastic.... but I am on a quest for a Fireglo 4003s at the moment so I say Fireglo

On its face I would chose the FG. I prefer the fully finished neck's on RICs but the walnut models have satin, or comparatively unfinished necks. I hate to say it but reminds me of something along the lines of a *gasp* Squier Affinity. There, said it, deal with it. It would have to be a particularly nicely figured walnut for me to get past that. I do like that the walnuts seem to weigh a lot less than the maple models, but maple is the classic RIC for me.

They both look great. For me Jetglo is -the- Ric color, but I digress.

If it was my choice I think I'd go with Fireglo. I already have 2 natural finish basses, a blonde/natural finish upright and a 2 tone sunburst P-bass. It'd make sense to add some color to the collection (I ponder some loud seafoam green and maple neck Musicman perhaps in the future).

Maybe it would be helpful to think of it in the context of the rest of your collection, assuming you have more instruments?
